That's awesome, but if they see this video they may not appreciate being called boring. Red tables don't seem boring to me

Hi dearest Becky ! I am so happy for you that the Boss of the cafe asked about having your lovely paintings framed and then put them up for sale ! 🤗🥰They are absolutely beautiful and people will love them for sure as so many of us who are subscribed to your Channel all agree on this ! This cafe is really nice and vibrant with that bright red color ! Red is a stimulating color and being in an eating area it makes people more hungry and that tis why very often we find red in restaurants !! Your drawing are becoming better and better and that is so nice to see ! I am still on holiday and have been sketching various rooms and corners of the place we are staying in, all the time remembering how you tackle certain colors and pen marks ! Thank you ever so much Becky for giving me the stimulations to just grab my pen and draw !! I still have a long way to go but the first step or should I say the first mark has been made on my sketch book and the rest is up to me if I should continue ! I will do my utmost to do so and watching you is surely giving me the courage to do so ! I send you my Blessing, love and happy wishes for a lovely week ! See you soon.... Lorraine 💕🥰🤗👋🎨

The contrast of intensity and precision of the trait really works magic to give the 3 dimensions effect to the scene and differenciate inside and outside the café! i LOVE that the boss of the café came to order you some work!!! congrats!!! ^^

Its amazing how you can do your line work in pen. I have to use a pencil, because I mess up and need to erase. Once I finish the line work I go back over it in pen, then I paint it. It takes me a long time. Maybe someday I'll have the skill and confidence to draw my line work with pen and stop using the pencil. You're so skilled Becky. Love from Ohio.

I was doing that too, took so long before even getting to the fun part with color. Was waiting for my food once and only had a pen, so I tried drawing the table where I waited, still not ready. So I drew the tables around me, then the counter where people placed their orders. And the signs, and the soda machine. Usually took me an hour of sketching I couldn't believe the food wasn't ready yet. I went to the next page and took notes on what colors things were and colored them when I got home. It's so much FASTER not to use pencil. My image came out wonky, with a row of tables to my left looked like they were climbing up the wall, but I still like it.

Thank you for these videos Becky! I would love to try sketching in a coffee shop but have been too shy to do so. If someone came over to see my work I think I'd be mortified. Your videos are helpful to get an idea of where to start (the whole scene looks complicated) and to know to use shapes. I think a scene like this would take me a long time to complete (and many coffees!). How long did this sketch and watercolor take you? Thanks again!

Thank you, Jeanne! It took me two hours in total to do the line work and watercolors on location. ☺️ You will get more confident with time and practice, LOTS.

How long does it take you to do this drawing? What do you do with them later, do you make larger paintings, or are they done work in themselves?
@BeckyCao2 жыл бұрын
Most of them are done work themselves, a visual diary for myself. I also make prints of some of the pages.

You are such a great teacher! I love to follow your process when sketching and painting! When I’m sketching from a photo, the view is already decided. I can’t sketch anything outside of the ”frame” that the photo presents, if you understand what I mean. While on location, I have a 180 degree view and find if really difficult to decide on how much of that wide view I should choose for my sketch. I’ve actually considered making a view finder to help me. How do you decide what to fit into your sketch and what parts of the scenery that are outside of your imaginary frame?
@recoveringsoul7552 жыл бұрын
I had the same problem when mountain climbing. Think of it the way you would if you were taking a photograph, you point the camera and use the viewfinder to Frame what area you want to take the picture of. (Although I've been known to take multiple pictures and then overlap them when printed to get a better feel of what it was like there in person). I've seen people make a little cardboard "frame" to take with them to use when sketching. Look through the cardboard and move it around to see what you want to capture in your sketch
@BeckyCao2 жыл бұрын
Hi Carina, great questions. I completely understand what you mean. ☺️ There is always a central focus in the 180 degree view, and most of the time, we only need part of it, like 90 degrees. In this situation, I identified the cashier area, pastry display shelf, the wine bottles, and the red balcony uniting together as a central focus. The blank walls on the left and right speaks less of the environment, and so not necessary to be included. So our goal is to convey clearly what the environment is, for a cafe, is to include the key objects.

It's simply a gooseneck phone tripod from Amazon, with a clamp on the base that can be attached to table edges.
