I think I might get your book for my mother. I am Non-Binary but she doesn't really understand and keeps gendering and deadnaming me, and we recently discovered that she has 2 nieces and 2 nephews, not 3 nephews and a niece. My newly out cousin is 60 and I am so happy for her finally being able to feel comfortable in her skin, but my mother is having issues dealing with it.

when i was in high school my best friend refused to date any of the guys at our school or anywhere in the vicinity & she had a list a mile long of criteria for her to date a guy. it was like "the build of a WWE wrestler (a dealbreaker from the get-go when you're talking about 16yo boys), 6'3" tall exactly, blond hair, a cleft chin, dimples, no body hair" like a full page of qualities that no human being alive could meet and she WOULD NOT CONSIDER any guy who didn't meet ALL of them. we were like "uhhh sounds a bit militant, you hitting for the other team?" and she swore she was not. 10 years later i looked her up on facebook and indeed she was lol

Golden Gaytime is definitely real, it's an ice cream brand that's been here in Australia so long the name meant something different when it was made, and it survived the intervening decades by being really nice ice cream and because kids would buy one and have a giggle about the name. They put out a few alternate flavours a few years back like the unicorn one and birthday cake. We're surprisingly adverse to changing long-named brands which is probably why it's survived this long, like people were up in arms over recent changes to a brand of candy and a brand of cheese because one was named after a racial stereotype about native Americans and the other was a straight up racial slur

In the Cheese's defence the slur like many slurs takes existing words and adds different context to it. In the cheeses case it was the guys surname so it's not like he thought ... hmm this cheese should be named after a reacial slur for black people. There's a guy in the Iliad with that name so it's not exactly new one either. It's a bit like all those girls named Karen - their parents didn't know someone was going to take it and make it synonymous with crazy entitled women and should they have to change just because of that. Eventually the cheesemakers company changed the longstanding name but it kind of irks me that they had to in a way because that almost makes me feel like bigots got a win by twisting something that was totally unrelated to bigotry so much that innocent people had to change the name of their product because of it.

One of my favorites is when my homophobic brother in law said that he chose to be straight after I said that being gay wasn’t a choice anymore than being straight was and my sister (his wife!) and I just looked at each other like uhhhh….. we may have news for you. @@dietotaku hi, it's me. I went through a very lonely period- I had good friends, but I wasn't finding anyone to date (whole host of reasons). For whatever reason, I had a serious thought about dating a good female friend- we already spent a lot of time together and she was light years better than the young men in my life. I have it done serious, serious thought, but I decided that I didn't like her like that, and I wasn't interested in any woman that way. Further I decided it would be unacceptable to try to date her just because I was lonely because that would be using her, and I didn't (still don't) want to be that person. Believe me, I over thought this. I like women, but I don't lust them.
@mirandarensberger6919
@mirandarensberger6919 Жыл бұрын
@@Asongbook I wouldn't call that choosing to be straight, though. It sounds more like you just came to the realization that you aren't attracted to women. Choosing would be more like, I'm going to force myself to be attracted to a particular gender, somehow making yourself feel things that you don't. Asking yourself questions isn't choosing to be straight or gay, it's just evaluating what you're already feeling.
@KitsunetheWolfdog
@KitsunetheWolfdog Жыл бұрын
@@Asongbook there is a pretty big difference between choosing to be straight and realizing you're straight. Your comment kinda goes back to their comment about people not understanding what choosing something means. Here's an example: its lunch time and you're hungry so you make a sandwich. You didn't choose to be hungry but you did choose to make a sandwich. You could have chosen to not eat, but you would still be hungry

@@dietotaku I'm convinced most of them are actually bisexual... especially after hearing multiple people a generation or two older than me (I'm a millenial) get that "epiphany" when their (grand)child came out to them (in whatever LGBT+ way) and talked with them about it. I'm bisexual myself and have dated two of the three girls I had a crush on. All three relationships with them ended absolutely horribly and I have actively chosen not to include women in my dating pool anymore and would only consider a relationship with a woman if she's very obviously a catch (in regards to her personality). It's not that big of a deal for me because my attraction to women and men isn't a 50/50 split (more like a 10/90 split) and I just favour men in general. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Some people also think you have to be equally attracted to women and men in order to be bisexual, so they still label themselves as straight when they're actually most likely bisexual. I've met a few people who genuinely thought that and then soon after labelled themselves proudly as bisexual...

I honestly dont understand the hug thing. Im ace and my parents would only hug me if I was injured or if my Dad was drunk when I had to go apologise for something he said, then i'd get a hug and very quietly whispered: me too. Beyond that, I disliked being hugged because it went on too long, hurt and in the case of some weird people, involved being groped. Are there really kids starved of touch that are negatively impacted by it? Why would you want that? I dunno maybe its just me but I never know how long a hug is meant to last? Five seconds? Ten? I also just go with however long it naturally lasts, usually until both people mutually agree through body language that it's over. Many times I nearly pull back too early and go back into it because I'm worried it'd make it too awkward, but most times I just brush it off and subconsciously try alternative body language a tiny bit later. The lemon bars started as meme in 2018. It was just completely random. I guess the original meme featured a gentleman in a tuxedo holding a tray of lemon bars, with the greeting, "welcome to the Bi side! Have a lemon bar." And, it just took off like hotcak - er - lemon bars. Also, I found a couple of dictionaries with entries for 'lesbianic', with the definition: "of or pertaining to lesbians." (WordSense Dictionary and Glosbe Dictionary) And finally, Golden Gaytime is a brand of crusted ice cream bars in Australia.

Story time: I didn't come to the realisation until a while ago that my sisters and I had two mums at one point. For quick context, our parents got divorced when I was about maybe 4 or 5 years old (I don't remember) and our mum is bisexual. Mum met a woman (I'm gonna call her L because I don't wanna say her full name) who started living with us, and as I said earlier I didn't really understand because I was like 6 and I didn't even know LGBTQIA+ existed. I don't even think I questioned it, I was probably just like "This is normal." I'm not sure if my sisters who where like 8 and 3 at the time questioned it either. Anyway, we where a happy family. And we would sometimes visit L's sister and her family. Also, my sisters and I lived with our dad on Mondays and Tuesdays, and with our mum(s) on Wednesdays and Thursdays, and then every other Friday/weekend it would be whatever. A few years later mum and L broke up. To wrap this story up, I think it's pretty cool that my sisters and I had two mums. I probably should've explained a bit more, but I was lazy.

Yup, children don't hate unless they taught to hate. And they're not confused in the slightest by someone being LGBTQ+. I grew up with a lesbian aunt and the only thing I ever found confusing was when kids at school (when I was about 12 or so) said it was weird for two women to be together. btw, last autumn said aunt finally picked up the courage to marry her "roommate" of almost 50 years. I'm so proud of her and so happy for both of them!

@Stripes socially, people are expected to demonstrate certain characteristics based on their sex. Sometimes, people don't feel comfortable with the labels put on them by the world so may choose to present themselves in a way that doesn't conform to norms. It really isn't hard. @strangejune

@Stripes Try explaining the enforcement of gender roles in society to a 5 year old in a way that doesn't leave them utterly confused. No, you can't do that, because that's what we think the OTHER gender does. Kids don't need an explanation of gender, because they aren't confused until people start policing it. For most kids it might not even occur to them.
@strangejune
@strangejune Жыл бұрын
@Stripes Actually, that's the exact opposite of what I said. Maybe you don't remember being a kid, or maybe you just happened to meet the standards that society expected you to. Kids do not understand gender roles, and the moment you put pressure on them to act a certain way, they become deeply confused, and often ashamed if they don't already fit in. Internalized transphobia doesn't grow on trees.

Hey Jamie...Golden Gaytimes are an Ice-cream here in Australia. They are delicious. The whole 'being gay is a choice' argument automatically implies the person making it has made the choice to be straight, and only a bisexual person has the ability to make that kind of choice. So what they are really arguing is that they are bisexual and that majority of the 'straight' population is actually bisexual. The idea that the majority of humanity is bisexual actually makes a lot of sense, when you understand that the rules laid down by religion are specifically about controlling the behaviour of a population to benefit the elite. So it makes sense there would be a need to outlaw homosexual behaviour to force the naturally bisexual people into heterosexual relationships which is more likely to increase the population and more likely to reduce happiness and individuality, thus making the population more controllable and abundant.

_"The whole 'being gay is a choice' argument automatically implies the person making it has made the choice to be straight"_ I get what you're saying, but that doesn't follow logically. Conservatives tend to have a very rigid world view, where certain things are seen as the default. Being cishet is the norm, and deviations from that norm is obviously a choice due to "moral failings" when you hold those backwards views. So e.g. openly trans or bisexual people are either sick/corrupted and need to be "helped" (conversion therapy is literal torture), or they're inherently bad and Matt Walsh wants them *gone.* Basically if you're not following the cishet lifestyle, you or your parents must be/have done something sinful.

Yes, Jamie, there is a Golden Gaytime. It's an ice cream on a stick (I think you call that an "ice lolly"?), and an Australian icon. For most of the 1980s the advertising slogan was "It's hard to have a gay time on your own". The product you were looking at was a birthday cake variant.

We have a similar kind of ice cream in America, that are made by Blue Bunny. The most common one is strawberry and is just called a Strawberry Shortcake Bar, but there's other flavors. I looooove birthday cake flavor though, so I'm jealous because we don't seem to have that flavor here

I can't wait to read your book Jamie, your channel has helped me so much. You helped me start my journey of self discovery and helped me learn the terminology to explain how I felt. I've now officially come out as trans (FTM) with my boyfriend (we've been together for 8 years) as well as 2 friends at work. All of them have been super accepting and its been amazing being able to just be myself.

10 years ago a lot of people said I was gay and I panicked and denied it, now I'm just being the queer that I am. For a strange reason when I was in the closet everyone realized I was gay, now a lot of people tell me they don't realize I'm gay and they are surprised when I tell them I am 😂😂😂😂😂😂

10:32 My friend actually had 3 moms, lol. In that case, it wasn't because of polyamory, but instead, 2 of them got divorced, and then one married the third, but the divorced wives were still on fairly good terms with each other. Hence - 3 moms.

About the broccoli thing, I remember seeing OT reacting to this, and talking about broccoli flowers. I don't remember if he said that he thinks that they weren't giving broccoli but broccoli flowers, but it would make sense. The broccoli necklace would make more sense too.

12:06 According to Google....the lemon bars are now classed as ' bisexual', because they become an official pastry snack within the bisexual community, because they are popular. I am sure someone will be able to share more light into this, but this is all I got.

I'm so happy for the LGBTQ movement, so young people can learn who they are. i didn't have the opportunity to accept the fact i was bisexual until recently, and now i'm happily married to a cis man, so it's kinda like this moot point/thing i'll never fully understand about myself. it was just a little thought i locked up a long time ago after hearing enough hate toward specifically bisexuals and lesbians. I came out to my husband, and i am open about it online, but i refuse to tell anyone else i know irl because i still have internalized self-hate regarding it and i don't want to to hear "i knew it," while they look at me disgusted.
