I find the “no brand owner has done as much as I have!” very ironic - Phil McKnight, for example told the story about when he had his guitar store open in Arizona I believe, Paul Smith actually flew him out to Maryland and had a dinner meeting with a bunch of other store owners and basically asked them what they thought he could be doing better. As I understand it this kind of thing happens all the time. Paul paid for the whole thing.

I hadn’t watched a Rob Chapman video in probably three years, so before all this stuff came to light. I used to look up to him as he seemed to be a guy who worked at a music store, was passionate about guitars and gear, and he was also talented. To my old fart thinking , all these go fund things are over the top , but I guess it's a generational thing , not specific to Chapman . Millennials & such are prone to start an internet fundraiser if their cat has a hairball . It sucks to be Riff City presently . But I haven't read the actual contract(s) between Chapman and Riff City . What was the exact language , and were they any contractual violations ? I don't know , we don't know . If there were ,don't bother to tell the internet , have your lawyer file suit . Bottom line - It's a semi- free Internet . If you don't like/ enjoy a certain content , don't watch it . I think Rob has made the same mistake as games companies, trying to be buddy buddy while also being a business, the business will always win, but the business man rarely realizes this or rather rarely realizes the effect it has on the onlooker, because we're not stupid. I stopped watching Rob quite a few years ago and started following Rabea instead, because Rob was way more a business man than a youtuber, it was like a business man who's minimally likable and tries to use that likability to further his business, even if it's not on purpose, that's what it looks like to the audience. I have nothing against Rob, and i'm not sure he deserves some of the shit he's getting, but he does need a wake up call to understand that he has to choose; either you're a retailer or a youtuber, you can't be both. Especially you can't use your "youtuber" status to act ignorant toward the business side of things, which is his biggest mistake in this particular case with his response video.

It is reassuring that Andertons have remained very loyal to Rob. Lee Anderton, who strikes me as one of the nicest guys on and off the internet, obviously has a lot of love for Mr Chapman. I can't help but feel he must be quite concerned and saddened by the amount of negativity currently surrounding his friend, and how this might affect the Andertons brand. It seems Lee and Rob have two very different relationships with KZbin - one is quite pragmatic in recognising the huge commercial value of a multifaceted guitar-centric multi-channel approach to marketing a successful music gear and Instrument retail brand and exploiting it in a very entertaining and professional way, whilst Rob's vibe is extremely nuanced, much less predictable and with many different agendas simultaneously in play. I quite like Rob Chapman's KZbin stuff, particularly his collaborations with Andertons. I just think he needs to reevaluate his personal relationship with the platform and decide exactly where it figures in his life right now, because I see storm clouds on the horizon.

His version of crisis management has been to try & stack as many bodies that aren't him under any available bus. What Rob has truly done is to make himself & by attachment, his brand, less attractive to any future business trading partners. With gun laws so strict in England, Chapman has really had to work hard to shoot himself in the foot this badly.

You nailed it.!!!!!!!!! Forget the ALS challenge ... What he did to Riff City, and I can come from the wholesale / retail business of a 28 year career is bullshit . . brands do help out their retailers after the product launch with in store clinics, co-op advertising money etc... he comes off "no one's holier than though", and some of us close to Riff City, who were loyal customers of Riff City and it's staff, Rob blatantly lied . Riff City paid for the world tour, tour busses , and his airfare. On the British Standard series.. he said he sold loads of them.. that's not true either. And on his charitable donations soapbox... he pulled a Jeff Bezos , Kardashian comment : "if I do a charity thing , I try to keep it hush ". well yeah Rob.. Don't you think the Chappers Challenge was the problem , since the next time you bring up "charity " people would be all over you like white on rice? And to all the comedians out of work below with the " worrying about youtube drama when you can be practicing ", and anyone attempting to make a living with a camera is a classic narcissist .. " well the weatherman, the new caster, the anchor, the actors guild, Amazon Prime, Netflix, NAT GEO documentaries , Discovery, ... all narcissists ? WRONG. moral of the story.. this isn't about trolling, basement dweller viewers, adults still living in their parents homes, or haters... this was and is about business integrity , deception, spin doctor move , smoke and mirrors, and blatant lies and bullshit , and pompous arrogant ego and being in love with yourself . We drank the koolaid . I bought a Chapman, ( marginal product at best trying out a ML3), and a Victory Amp.. because of Chappers. And spent a fortune with Riff City before Rob even sold to them . But to find the incessant need to post a " My Truth " video... I hope you wiped your mouth with toilet paper , Rob.

The Riff City thing started as a great idea, I know because it got me at first. I pre-ordered a Trans-Black Ghost Fret when they first came out, received it, and played it for a week or two and at a few gigs until I realized that it was just not for me, felt completely alien to any other guitar I'd played and didn't sound as good as my others, and totally not worth the price, and returned it. My dealings with Riff City were easy as pie. I just emailed them and said, "Hey I got this guitar, and I just don't love it, I'd like to return it." No problem, job done. It sounds like they got wrapped up in something that seemed like a good idea and a lucrative business decision at first, and to the outside world, seemed to be just that.

Had a very similar experience almost the same guitar. Riff City was awesome.
@djjazzyjeff12324 жыл бұрын
@@richsackett3423 I remember the joint on the back of the headstock being so big, it would feel like you were on the 1st fret on any other guitar but on that one you were on the 2nd. It was such a dumb design, to stand and play it while singing, it was completely impractical and stupid.

If you return a guitar after doing ‘a few gigs’ with it, would you generally get a refund? Not being confrontational, I live on a small island and gear is something I’ve always had to order in, hope I gel with and then take a financial hit via eBay (or occasionally locally) if I move it on as a used item. It’s never actually occurred to me that I could return it. I’d also hate to buy something I thought was ‘new’ if someone had done a few gigs on it.
@djjazzyjeff1232 Жыл бұрын
@@rickjones641 You just have to check whomever you're buying from's Return Policy. Riff City for example had at least a 14 day no-questions-asked policy, might've even been longer like 30-45 days, I don't remember. Also I know they're taking a risk, because you're right they cannot resell that guitar as new. It'll probably be sold as open-box, or I guess it's possible to have it professionally cleaned and polished and then re-packaged and re-sold as new, but that would be more money invested from Riff City, probably not worth it. I have a similar locational situation lol, every guitar I've ever bought has been online because the nearest "real" music shop is a guitar center 100 miles away. My advice would be to try to get to a shop at some point and play lots of guitars that you're interested in, then you'll have a baseline of what to expect. Here's and example: I did that, I was in the market for a Les Paul in 2014, and I played a 2013 Standard which had the push-pull coil split and stuff, and I just didn't' like it. Didn't like the neck, didn't like the sound, didn't like anything about it really, so I played a 2013 Traditional, big chonky 50s baseball style neck, wiring inside, not circuit board, slightly different pickup, 57 Classic instead of a Burstbucker, and I LOVED it, so then I went on to Sweetwater's website, and they have it set up in such a way that you can browse THE guitar. It's not just a stock imagine, and you buy, and you get what you get, no, you get to look at every guitar in their stock really closely, and I found one that spoke to me, and I've been playing it live and on records ever since then, it's within eyesight of me right now as I type this comment! I knew I would like it, but even if I didn't, they also have a 14 day return policy. I'm on their website right now, it's the same now as it was almost 10 years ago, it gives you exact weight of each guitar, and shows you real hi-res photos of all sides of every guitar. It's really the way to go. But like 10 years ago, all the LPs they got in Heritage Cherry are ugly right now, so I would wait until they get another round and then check out those ones! But I did the same with my Telecaster, and my Schecter Hellraiser w/ Sustainiac.

Yeah okay Rob "he could have just asked for an interview" because rob is so easy to get ahold of without being outright ignored or shoved off. If anyone besides a company offering Rob money to talk to them or endorse whatever bs product, tries to content him they may aswell not exist. I own a chapman that I really love. It's an amazing guitar. I happened to get one of the good ones. I know how hit and miss they are after getting involved in the community inadvertently. Since I needed a whammy bar that was somehow forgotten with my brand new purchase, i was trying to figure out what bridge and what kind of bar it used since none of that info was posted for my particular model. I was straight up ignored after several attempts at getting ahold of chapman guitars and then Rob himself through any and all social media accounts and emails. Eventually after weeks of persistence on my part I finally get a response from Rob telling me to get ahold of the Chapman page. Then I told him I had been trying for weeks to get ahold of him and them. He finally ends up telling me theres no way for him to know? The parts are all put on at the factory.... I dont see how that has any effect on him knowing what parts they chose for one of their most expensive and only signature model at that point. Of course I never got any answers I eneed up having to buy a bunch of different whammy bars until I found the long 5mm.

Robert Chapman has always been a "wanna-be rock star", but never had the guitar chops, nor the voice, nor the looks (even with cheesy dreadlock "hair extensions"). Then he got into musical instruments manufacturing business, as a designer and a dealer ... the manufacturing side of this business being handled by Asian companies for the major part of the production so far. The problem with this guy is that he hasn't yet decided to become a "real full time businessman" and fully embrace all the business aspects of that profession ... he's basically an aging baby boy in a candy store, playing with adults. There's nothing wrong with this musical manufacturing business, and he definitely should forget about "social medias" and the nonsensical half backed rocker career, and should concentrate on hard core business management. I don't believe that he's a bad dude ... he's just confused, and needs to focus, that's all.
@belange87014 жыл бұрын
@Human Resources 100% agreed ! And a total lack of sense of responsibility. I mean, when you decide to do business on a medium to large scale, then you need to 1stly pay attention to the people involved in your business with you, and you can't be and react like a little baby boy anymore.

I have been waiting for the Rop Chapman is a rat backlash for about four years, I knew something was up with how he represented himself, how he is contracted with Andertons, his fiscal relationship with riff city, the "clinic's" in his videos as well as fan interaction in Dorje (which I am admittedly not a fan of). Most of which indicated Rob has some sort of superiority complex. Good video.
