Congrats on the new sim rig. Just got one as well. It’s really interesting watching a fellow noob rather than all the KZbinrs that look like pros. One thing I noticed is there’s a cone on the right side of the chicane that Lewis lines up on and turns in from as he approaches the cone making for a smooth and wide turn in then cuts the inside corner. In comparison, you start your turn in way before that cone on the right and you also start from around the 2/3 of the way to the right and then you make up for the poor entry line by barreling through the whole chicane at a much more straight angle. It helped me watching your gameplay and noticing some similar errors that I do. I hope this helps.
@justinsdaysoff
@justinsdaysoff 2 жыл бұрын
Hey, thank you for watching, and I appreciate your comment. I'm glad you're picking up on the errors I'm making and learning from them - that improvement is one of my favorite parts of this hobby. Funnily, the chicane you mentioned is something I do intentionally, just not as smoothly as those with more skill than me. In GT Sport, the track limits can be a bit unrealistic, and that particular chicane allows you to pass through it so long as you keep two wheels on the red and white curbs. Hamilton isn't aware of this, as those are very lenient track limits relative to what you'd see in real life. To catch up to him, you can brake just before the 100 board and send it through the chicane like a madman. I watched SuperGT's video on him beating Lewis Hamilton, and he gives a more detailed account of the strategy. Not realistic, but if you get it right, you can gain some serious time. Anyways, have a good day!

Great content! Lots of little useful tidbits of information 💁‍♀️ I've caught a couple of your sim progression videos and it is apparent why your channel is growing.... you are showing all us other noobs interested in sim racing how it can be done... correctly I might add. The equipment upgrades to the rig upgrades to the monitor/positioning to the new pc and online games.... kudos to you to for "bearing" it all for us to see... I, like you, got back into sim racing about 10 months ago. I was an OG of the GT Series up to PS3 (never got one). Got back into GT Sport and a little ACC on PS4, and now the GT7 madness! I had a wheel on PS2 back in the day.... but started about a year ago on PS4 using DS4 with motion - quite impressive tbh... then a couple months in upgraded to a CSL elite F1 bundle with LC brake and upgrade dampers plus the Porsche 918 round rim and a GT Lite folding rig. Worked well for a while but eventually upgraded to generic GT Omega ART frame a couple months ago. And tomorrow will get the new Fanatec GT DD with boost kit and LC brake (can't wait tbh, kid on Xmas eve...lol)! I have steadily improved consistently with each upgrade and have found a few tenths overall.... Then I caught your video talking about seating position and fov (fov was never a problem for me did the calc and measured...and had a monitor mounted like you do now -movable!). I hadn't paid that much attention prior as long as I seemed to be comfortable in the rig. But you got me thinking, so I did a Google search and found a doc from Ricmo Tech that explains proper seating position and measurements to help too. Basically between you and them I changed the seating position in the rig and I only have done a few laps so far but I already feel much more comfortable driving, and can see doing some longer enduro stuff now. As another YTer recently stated about his sim rig "....Basically this is my new favorite seat in the house, my happy place, just bring me food and water...." 😂❤😊 Its awesome to see you post videos, get some awesome comments, feedback and critique from other experienced racers, put it into practical application and benefit the rewards- greater immersion, greater fun, greater learning experience much better driver! 😊 Keep being yoy and doing what brings you jou -we are all along for the ride right there with you brother! 👍 Can't wait to see what's next in the journey...😮

Thank you for the kind remarks/feedback on my channel, and I'm glad some of my stuff on FOV and seating position were able to get translated into your own sim racing. My improvements in immersion and pace are mainly due to those who decided to view my videos and give advice, which has been an awesome experience. Wishing you the best when it comes to improving your pace and upgrading your rig. You've made some nice upgrades, and I'm excited for you to jump into direct drive as I now know how great of an immersion upgrade it can be! You may already be doing that right now, and in that case, I hope you're enjoying it :). Thanks again, and have a great day! Thanks for watching, and I'm glad you liked the video. A possible tip for your setup: I recently installed a TV wall mount that can extend the TV 40in or approximately 100cm from the wall. I mounted it such that the midline of the TV was at my eye line. Now I can roll the rig to the right spot and position the monitor as it should be for proper FOV sim racing. It was a nice, affordable way to get the rig more immersive. When you have to use a living room, I guess you have to get creative :). Have a good day.

@@justinsdaysoff that's a great idea. I keep my rig in a storage space in my apartment and just bring it to the living room when playing. @justinsdaysoff
@justinsdaysoff 2 жыл бұрын
@@alexgmrs Yes, the caster wheels were a must for me, too - it's just funny how when I want to race, I have to go through this little setup process every time. It's no big deal, though. I've thought about a butt-kicker and other motion stuff, but for now, I want to focus on obtaining a PC to play more titles. I kind of worry that the more I add, the more likely one thing is to break or need tweaking/repairing. I'm trying to find that balance between immersion/quality and simplicity/ease of use. In other games besides GT sport, the vibration motors in the V3 pedals add a nice bit of extra simulation.

Hey, thanks for watching. The wheel is excellent, especially at its price point. I would recommend going for the boost kit straight away - that extra 3nm is quite nice and doesn't cost too much more. When I first got the wheel, I was having trouble with the shaft coming disconnected from the wheelbase. A black, metal C-clamp holds the shaft in place, and I had to manually re-tighten that myself (which is what Fanatec told me to do). Other than that one issue, no problems at all.

Hi nice video. Do you think that driving the fanatec kit will make you faster than with your g29 or it's more about the experience and realism?
@justinsdaysoff
@justinsdaysoff 2 жыл бұрын
So the vast majority of my equipment is purely for immersion and fidelity. This equipment's effects on my pace will be minor and could be replicated easily with more practice on a G29. The loadcell brake, however, should lead to faster laps. The way you apply weight to the loadcell brake to dictate braking force with your leg muscles is more manageable for humans to do consistently and with refinement - it simply comes down to how our bodies work. Pivoting your ankle or positioning your foot like you have to do with a potentiometer-based brake pedal is harder for the human body and brain to work out.

You can hot-lap for days, thinking there is no way to push the car more, but with more practice, the times will improve, and you will become more competitive. The most important part for SIM racing and no one talks about it is the size of your monitor. If your eyes have to move a lot and your peripheral vision doesn't cover the entire screen then your monitor is too big or you are too close to the monitor. F1 drivers have said it for years that most of the time they are looking at the apex with their peripheral vision while their point of sight is one or two corners ahead.
@justinsdaysoff

Thanks for watching and for the tip. I've been working on how far to place the monitor from my eyes. @@justinsdaysoff If you like the gt3 style of cars the place to go sim racing is ACC on PC. ACC on PC is much better than the console version with a lot more support. Actually the studio (KUNOS) that makes the ACC PC game really has nothing to do with its port to consoles which is done by 505 games not Kunos. Also supposedly there will be coming out in the very near future an American Track pack which will feature some of the top tracks on the SRO motorsports America group such as Cota, Watkins Glen being just a couple of the tracks rumored to be upcoming.

@justinsdaysoff

Certain Fanatec wheelbases are Playstation-ready out of the box, including the CSL DD pro. The wheelbase comes with a cable that connects to the console via USB at the front of the console. Particular Fanatec wheels are Playstation-ready, too, so you don't even have to map the buttons if you don't want to. Fanatec does an excellent job at making plug-and-play sim equipment for consoles, which is nice for us players who don't have gaming PCs.

The main thing that I have a problem with is just thinking too much about my lap, always worrying about if I'm taking the right line or braking enough. I think if you just try to drive without thinking about every little thing you need to do you'll get faster.
@justinsdaysoff

You and I both. I need to learn to hone my skill and focus on what matters. It's funny how sometimes I'll put music on while I drive, and my laps will be better than without it, especially with hot lapping, which is what I mostly do now. When I'm on for a good lap, the latter half of the lap, I'm always overanalyzing every corner. That challenge to stay focused on what matters and be free of distraction is why I have enjoyed this hobby so much.

Not bad for a beginner man. Regarding the trailbraking its a technique that requires some practice to master. Its all about controlling and shifting the balance and weight of the car as you turn in setting the car up for the corner. An essenstial skill if you want to become fast and in better control of the car. But one that takes some time to get the feeling for. Right now it looks to me like your still a bit to forcefully or eratic with the brake when you release it, it really needs to be that smooth transition from full on braking to turn in to apex to keep the car nice and steady. But just keep up the practice mate and you will get there surely.

You really need to get the monitor right up against the back of the wheelbase. Right now it's like you're driving from the back seat. Proper FOV will really bump up the immersion. Also, GT Sport is horrible for cockpit view. There's not much adjusting the seating position in cockpit view. That's why the majority of top GT players use either bumper view or bonnet view..
@justinsdaysoff
@justinsdaysoff 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching and for your advice. Since this video, I've managed to bring the monitor to the correct position using a wall mount and have been enjoying it. It's so much easier to spot braking points, and of course it's more enjoyable. I used to drive with the bonnet view exclusively but have recently switched to cockpit view for a bit more immersion and realism, though I'm sure I could go faster with a different view. Next, I'll have to get into ACC, iRacing, etc., which will have proper FOV settings to dial in the immersion further. All and all, the rig is coming along nicely. Hopefully, I can make another video showcasing the progress.

I‘d say if you want to get better at GTS you should be driving some sim where you don’t get away with the mistakes you are making. Learn to drive in a sim where car behavior is more realistic. Like in ACC or AC and if you can put out some decent and consistant laps in there you should go back to GTS. So learn the basics of racing. Learn to feel understeer, learn to feel oversteer, learn how to approach certain cornertypes (like the hairpin before the Schumacher S - you need to Double apex it. First apex is at the entry then you leave the inside for like 3-5 meters to come back and be earlier on the throttle) in real sims you are learning to Drive way cleaner and more precise. Because slaming it into a corner as you can do in GTS, youll not just lose time, it will kill you.

@@justinsdaysoff ACC for gt3, I dropped my iRacing subscription as to me ACC is much better. Biggest advantage for iRacing is some of the American tracks which are available basically nowhere else but the cost of buying their content piece by piece both tracks and cars plus needing to maintain an active subscription to even access the content you bought and paid for can add up quickly. In my opinion with iRacing you really do not own the content but only rent it as you cannot use it if you do not have an active subscription even offline. With ACC buy it once and it is always yours. Another thing is ACC has some of the best AI drivers in the business which actually you can just enjoy racing offline or they will make you better preparing you to race real people online. They are adjustable to give most drivers a decent challenge from just learning up to most good drivers that are not actual aliens. Hotlapping is good but in actual racing you must learn the track and to race not always having the preferred line available to you.
