As a car stereo head before 4wder, i can touch base on a few things here. Throw max power out the window, completely irrelevant and only ever worry about its RMS. AWG american wire gauge is interchangeable with the B&S unit we see more often here in australia. A general rule of thumb for the standard amp installs is 8awg for a 300wrms , 4awg good for around 1000wrms. You are right to say these systems draw in peaks or surges, the full RMS wattage will only be drawn when playing a purely sinusoidal signal. For cable sizing, this is applicable to even dual battery wiring. Ampere ratings in cables are more so to describe what current you can safely pass through the wire before the insulation on it is in danger of losing its integrity from the heat. But It never accounts for the acceptable voltage drop. Speakers need back pressure and in proper installments, are installed in a sealed enclosure, or ported but it must be tuned properly. Sound deadening the outer door skin helps with rattles as it changes the resonance of the door panels But where you will get a massive improvement in both mid bass and response is by sealing all the holes behind the door card to essentially use the entire door cavity as a speaker on closure, rather than letting those sound waved escape. You can use the butyl sound deadener to replace that plastic vapour barrier. For the same reason your speakers sound better with a HPF, your mid bass could also improve by using component speakers to let the discrete tweeters reproduce the high frequencies. It also has the added benefit of raising the 'sound stage' so it sound like your music is coming from up near the dash rather than down at your feet. How long can you play this system for? I've got the math here. looks to be a Cadence FXA-5100, 4x100WRMS @4ohm, 300WRMS @4 ohm. Class AB amp 50-65% efficiency. If tuned for 2x30WRMS fronts, 2x100WRMS rears, 300WRMS sub= 560WRMS /0.65(class AB efficiency) = 861W / 12V= 72AMP for a sine wave half it for general music and you'll avg at 36 amp draw at full volume. You do the math on the size of your optima battery, im not quiet sure. Tuning the sound system is also half the install too, It would have been nice to cover your tuning process in the video. Your mate is absolutely right that you tune the gains on the amp when the head unit is near maxed out. running too much gain will cause clipping on the signal which essentially a dc current being passed through the coils of the speaker, overheating it then burning it out. I absolutely love my music and will sacrifice many things before i sacrifice having the sound quality a large sub provides. I've given it the full sound deadening treatment with a layer for the inner and outer door skins, 4 kenwood component speakers powered by a 4x80WRMS rockford fosgate amplifier, 12" 600WRms Alpine type S sub and matching amplifier. The sound system is hands down my favourite mod to my 4wd as i use it no matter if im stuck in traffic dailying it or cruising down open roads and 4wd tracks. I was fortunate enough to have all this stuff laying around from old installs i've upgraded for people or i've just been given.
@Epic501 Жыл бұрын
Solid info there. Although I think the caution his mate was setting the gain structure for wasn't to avoid clipping the amp and melting coils, but having the amps wide open and allowing room on the head unit volume pot that could blow the speakers if cranked, which would technically be the "right" way to set the gains as far as headroom, but totally unnecessary with this set up and I wouldn't trust my mates with that power either if the amp had no limiters haha.

That's a great mod. I'm an old bloke (67) and I've always been pissed-off (probably just jealous) when I hear doof-doof cars go by.....because the "music" (???) they play is always CRAP!!! When you cranked up Money For Nothing...I thought my heart would melt!! Finally, somebody has a GREAT stereo system AND they're playing GREAT music from it. Keep it up.....very envious and may have to look at doing something like that in my 2012 Duramax/Silverado....but then it may drown-out the 5" straight thru zorst ....hahaha

Good audio system is by no means a bad or dumb mod. All depends on how you use it. On a long highway drive having shit audio really drones in your head and ears. Just like bad seats, loose bolts rattling and a weak AC. Plus the number of Bluetooth snorkels, RGB bullbar whips, fake beadlocks and 5" lifted 4bys out there, makes your mods look very sensible and smart dan. Keep up the great work

One thing to look put for...make sure the speaker magnet/frame does not touch or come close to the lowered window glass otherwise it can shatter eg on a rocky road with the window down.

I run a single drawer as well. Built a custom box across the full width that follows the angle of the rear seat & sits flush to the rear drawer. Passengers side houses a 12" kicker comp & my secondary fuse box. Drivers side has a compartment for all my fluids but also houses1000w 4ch amp with a pc fan I set up to come on automatically to cool the amp. Also built a folding panel that clips to the drivers side to form a full length, 110cm wide bed that fits in over the rear seats. Takes less than 60 seconds to go from 5 seat family tourer to a solo camper set up & vice versa.

Good clip buddy, thoroughly enjoyed. Must be the time of year to do it as I have just put a new set of Clarion 6 1/2 inch splits in the front of my Nav’ and once I sort out my behind the rear seat sub box and old school USA made Rockford Fosgate amp, I’ll be cranking out some good music to LOL. One awesome track to test the new system out too is Phill Collins “In The Air Tonight”. One tip for anyone contemplating running cabling for an amp, always run your earth, power and speaker cables down one side of the vehicle and run your RCA‘s, even if they are shielded, down the opposite side of the vehicle and this will help minimise any sound interference and noises coming through the sound system from the engine revving. Great clip bud 👍👍

Thanks for making this. Seems a somewhat similar setup to my Toyota, at least in terms of tinny. I currently only have dash speakers but have options for door. That’ll be an improvement. I’m sure the knock test sounded even better to you. The sound deadening is key, I think. Be good to learn more on that. Not heard of these spacers that you made so good work, thanks. I will be adding a sub but likely in the frame (unless I build a box). Cheers!

9:58 Dan taught me something new. I always thought that sheet op plastic is to prevent water and dust from going into the door, but it's the other way around. 20:00 Dan convinced me a 4wd needs a decent sound system. Okay, but the power draw and added complication makes it difficult for me to commit to it.

no matter make and/or model 4x4 you make there is a right way to do things and a wrong way to do things and jackass way to do things.. If planning to sleep out of vehicle likely mount speaker on a rack.. 1 thing you learn when designing weight baring roof racks what is commonly available from suppliers typically have 3/4's to 1/2 the weight when mounted to the rain channel of the vehicle to actually carry weight from 6-8 chassis point the only option is exoskeleton welded in 1 component chassis itself.. there is really no structural integrity in bolted on replacement option noting if you are in intending to winch from said roof at some point due to roll over i would never recommend doing this from gutter based mounting system.... if you going to 1000w ac into dc you be looking 24-48vdc system..
