One thing (out of many) that I've always enjoyed about Joe's channel is just the pure enthusiasm and zest for life. The fish, the sunsets, the dragonflies, jumping in the river fully dressed... Joe's laugh when something delights him is infectious and it's one of the things that makes his content so enjoyable to watch.

Recently, I learned that if you attach a plastic dragonfly onto your person somewhere noticeable, the horse/deer/black flies (and mosquitos) stay away, it's basically a Scarefly [scarecrow, but for the prey of dragonflies]. I'd suggest gluing the plastic dragonfly onto a safety pin or barrette, then it's modular!

Hearing you talk about the dead tree at @19:35, reminded me that *YOU* Joe...inadvertently saved my ass in Aokigahara Forest (AKA Japan’s ‘suicide forest’) after I learned from one of your videos the wisdom of checking for “Widow-maker” trees and branches around your campsite 🏕 before setting up your tent. I camped there in May (2021) and was just about to set the tent when, after having already checked for and avoided the obviously dead trees, I remembered to give the one closest to the site a good kick just for peace of mind... (boot to tree🥾🌳)..Crack!...Woosh! THUD!!! A 3-4 inch thick branch landed _right_ where the tent was gonna go, and definitely would have at least put at serious hurt 😳☠️😳 on whoever it had landed on had I not remembered to check one more time, thanks to your vids.

I love how the more and more away from people and civilisation you get, the more you appreciate nature. The skies, the insects, the trees, the fish, etc. That’s what it’s all about right there. Connection. We re born of nature and we will return to it. When we put aside technology and sit in the wilderness, even for a few hours, we reconnect to the old ways and to our ancestors. It’s crying out to us to find it again and we simply have to follow. Back is the only way forward. Thank you for keeping the touch burning man🔥

Keeping the pressure on them correctly and you become a better angler while not dealing with the barbs. Cheers.

It draws you in to the unseen, the unspoken. I also love the easy way you talk to us too, taking us with you, your unselfconcious banter. My neighborhood here in South Carolina has a lot of ponds and we get a lot of Canadian geese that will hang out for the winter. Sometimes, I'll see families of them while I'm out riding my bike on the nature trails near me, and I've seen that protective behavior before. I try to steer clear of them, but sometimes I can't help but stumble on them a little too close. Both mama and papa will stomp their feet and hiss at me. It's hilarious to see, because you can tell they mean business, but it's also cute as hell. I'll quickly back off because I'm not out to cause them any problems, and it's great to see nature at work like that.

The violin music at the beginning. Same as northern scavengers when they wrapped the canoe in "canoe down" Awesome choice! :-).

The first scene is brilliant. Ever considered to be an actor ;p? the facial expressions, the silence, the music, the cliffs, it all fits. Its almost you woke up on a random lake when a zombie apocalyps hit the world and u realize this is your world now. ah well, maybe its just my imagination. great vid mate

Love it, Joe! Another absolutely INSPIRING trip. Hate you had to backtrack for the yoke, but we've all done those kinds of things! I bet if ole Doug was with you, he would have tried to carve you a replacement! :) Keep up the great work - ignore the naysayers!

Video is incredible. I felt like i was on the portage and paddling. Even jumping in the water was so real. Camera is great but your expertise in subject and format is awesome. Tks

Love your videos. Stay safe and take care of your body. I've been watching for a year and half. Love your family and we all know how important family is. So keep up the good work. Wish I could get out for the peace and quiet so good for the soul. But I get some from you which is better than nothing I'll take it. Its very calming to me watching you. Stay safe

Once on a canoe trip in Killarney with 2 of us plus our dog and a few thousand blackflies buddies, we were sitting out by the shore and a dragonfly circled us snapping at the blackflies until it was full. I like your philosophy of catch and release.

When you were talking about the geese protecting their young by flapping around in the water, it made me think of Killdeer. They'll lay their eggs on the ground in gravel or rocky areas and if you go somewhere in that vicinity the adult will drag it's wing as if we're broken. Once they've led you away from the nest it'll just fly away. If you see them doing that, be careful where you step because the eggs blend in really well with the rocks.
