In all of KZbin, I have watched thousands (literally thousands) of decluttering and minimalism videos... yet, you are my absolute favorite because your videos are real and relatable. You are doing such a wonderful job. Minimalism will change your life! You will think you are done with a room and you will find more stuff you dont need or like anymore until you're left with things you truly need. I couldn't believe how much I eventually allowed myself to get rid of. Things I thought I loved and needed that I didnt. I'm so much happier now.

LessBodyMoreHeart I agree 100%. I’m tired of seeing youtubers in Pinterest homes decluttering 3 hair ties, an old lip balm, and some expired quinoa. Some are organizing and cleaning their immaculate homes. Some seemingly declutter, then show haul after haul of things that they’ll use as declutter content next season. Erica is so relatable and seeing her having 💡 moments is just so satisfying.

I agree. I have and organised home but in the last 2 months I have found an additional 12 LARGE donation bags of stuff from around the house. Additional 4 bags of trash stuff ( stained, frayed...) so the more I do it the easier to dump.

Ann C yes!!! Drives me nuts. The woman I watch from the channel Old World Home declutters much the same way as me and shops almost the same way too. Finding Erica’s videos was amazing because she’s actually decluttering with purpose and is learning from it. Breaking habits to prevent the stress of stuff overtaking her ever again. This was something that was so freeing for me.

Jeanne Taylor, my husband and I just finished the process of emptying our parents’ homes over the last few years. It was so physically taxing and even more emotionally painful. I really don’t want to leave such a task for our children. I am on board and working on it. My husband probably never will be. 🙄
@EricaLucasLoves5 жыл бұрын
Jeanne - that is a considerate thought. I read Swedish Death Cleaning, and that might be a fit for you if your library has it. It's about leaving behind a kit of what you'd want your son to know was meaningful to keep, and that the rest is just clutter and stuff to you. That may help him when the time comes. It's a hard thing to face, and I've faced it. Please let me know how it's going for you!

I am 65. This summer I read Margareta Magnusson’s book “The Gentle Art of Swedish Death Cleaning: How to free yourself and your family from a lifetime of clutter." It was a major eye opener to get me started on more serious decluttering.

Erica Lucas I didn’t read your comment before I posted the same thing lol
@jeanne5125 жыл бұрын
I have read the book on Swedish death cleaning. And every other book on the market ~ hoarding, organizing, decluttering, minimalism, etc. I am currently working on a notebook of important information for my son (location of our will, POA, living will, cemetery deed, keys to bank box, last wishes, etc)and a notebook with an inventory of where important papers and important heirlooms are currently being kept. I emptied my parents home in 2013 ~ 2 dumpsters, 21 carloads to charity, truckload to auction and a storage unit for what I wanted to keep. I was depressed and exhausted. What a rude awaking to their hoard in a 1200 sq foot home! And how little $ it was worth.

If there’s an item on a hanger that you routinely skip over for something else it doesn’t need to be in the closet. I always make a mental note of that and I routinely clean out my clothes. You are adorable ;) I now have just 2 bags, 3 jeans, 5 sweaters/cardigans, 10 shirts/t-shirts and we have 4 different seasons over here. Never missed a single peace I discarded. The ones connected to memories are the hardest, but trough the process you discover that you never lose the memory with the item, it even becomes clearer since your thoughts become clearer in a clear space. I love the konmary method. My last closet cleanup was 2 weeks ago. I did 3 before, always struggled with items i loved but didn't fit me anymore. Now that I was able to let those go, everytime I open my closet I feel joy. Now it is Saturday morning, my baby is napping and I have nothing to do. I can sit have my coffee and relax. It is unbelievable to me. Things pull us down, steal or money our time and our peace of mind and we willingly let them.

I know you said you didn't like the dog crate in the bedroom, but one thing you can do is to find a nice blanket, towel, or sheet that you like the design of and put it on top of the crate. Dogs usually appreciate it as it makes a nice burrow and keeps it warmer, and it disguises the wire mesh.

I LOVE THAT IDEA!!!
@c_and_l5 жыл бұрын
@@EricaLucasLoves Also on second thought, if it gets cold where you live and the crate is against any outside walls, you may want to also line a blanket between the wall and the crate. (I just let it hang off the top and fold it over a few times so it doesn't fall off.) I do that with my dog's crate and it helps keep it much warmer. I do it with the floor underneath too, but since you have carpet and not hardwood, that shouldn't be necessary.

You make me smile. And this was just the motivation I needed! I decluttered a lot last year, but I'm not where I want to be! Today is the day I start again. Thank you!

Suzy B how did it go??

@@EricaLucasLoves Good start! Got two baskets out and our clothes minimized. We did the dishes too. We also ended up putting the Christmas tree up because it made the kids so happy. Really finding the joy!

I love the double konmari approach you took! So clever! Because when you look at the big huge pile it feels impossible to really look at the individual pieces. Thanks for the inspiration! 😊😊 My approach for buying new clothes: if I don't feel absolutely fabulous in it, I won't give it room in my house. Now, (almost) every piece in my wardrobe is a favorite. 😊

Sometimes I feel when we say we don't have anything to wear, it's because we have so many things, we get overwhelmed, because we have to much to pick from, just like my grandkids has so many toys they never play with all of them. Love what your doing here !

Donating your clothes hangers demonstrates commitment. I can do a purge but don’t ever commit to the hangers. Excellent job.

Do you end up filling the hangers again later?
@djawesomeness1595 жыл бұрын
Yep. They always get filled back up. Remember when you commented you loved the feel and material of your dress but not the look. I often get pulled into the ‘it’s almost the right thing’ mentality but never end up wearing it.

DJ Awesomeness you may want to check out capsule wardrobe. I did one last week and sharing the film soon. Helped me know the materials I like so I can shop better.

it helps if you move the bench a little every time for the dog. until it is out of the room. Another option we did when we got our puppies is downstairs and then one of us on the couch. and we alternated that. bench next to the couch in the night and so we did it until it was in the corner where the permanent place was. Then stay in the living room for a few days. And then let it beep. usually it goes without squeaking because that is the regular place during the day we feed the puppies in the bench. positive thoughts for the dog. depends on what kind of house you have how you train it.

I had so many bags and purses. I got rid of most of the bags. I donated all my purses but the one I carry. That made me feel great.

Its neat once you open your eyes to what you have tolerated around the house, how much change can be effected. good for you!!

You’re doing great! 😁When you start to feel overwhelmed take a break, drink a cup of tea or coffee and cuddle a critter or a child. The process of decluttering is a painfully slow process but worth it in the end. My next purging project is my coat closet. I DON’T want to do it but I know if I want to get to where I want to be it has to be done.🤨

This video inspired me so much! Please continue to the rest of the house. Minimalist life is different for everyone and I like how you figure out your magic number for each article of clothing and purses. 😊 🏡🛏💗👍🏼
