Great song. Robin said he got the idea for the melody while on a plane over Germany. Kind of can hear the sounds of engines in the melody. What a voice. I’m in love with the entire group. Interesting fact about Robin. He loved reading history and knew so much. Very brilliant man on many subjects. Yes a mind blowing performance. Every time he performed this song he got huge standing ovation. Would have loved to see and hear this in person. Robin was a very deep and spiritual man. Loved him!

Barry has said in an interview that Robin's "pathos," that shows in his writing and composing, comes from the train accident Robin and Molly were in. Several people died. Robin said that it looked like a "war zone." They were on their way back home from a mini vacation. Maurice said he knew something was wrong with Robin before they received word about the accident. He just felt it. The scene at the hospital was total "carnage." Barry feels that experience brought out those emotions in Robin.

I love that you waited through the audience response. You see that he was loved. Many of his/their fans grew up with them and their music from the early days and so brings us back to our teenage, or younger, years. These were huge hits in the late 60's to 70's, and as they matured, their performances matured as well. The "other" song that I think you were trying to remember was probably Massachusetts. I'm really glad you found them and enjoyed Robin's unique sound so much. There's so much to those boys and their lives, and not enough space here to go into it. Cheers.

Robin had such a strong beautiful voice, some pros say he had a operatic voice, an amazing vibrato. Mr. Natural and I Can't see nobody are amazing Robin leads (Melbourne concert 1974) Their music has made 2020 much more tolerable ❤

What you brought up, about Robin not doing a lot of the lead singing, is exactly why Robin left the group in the late '60s...they eventually got back together in the early '70s..and that's when we see Robin getting more of the vocals. Maurice says he's always been stuck between the two trying to keep the peace...hence the song written by Maurice , The Man In The Middle.

They all had unique voices. Together they are wonderful. Barry has his signature song "Words." Robin has this one. Maurice has "Man in the Middle." Which by the way, the best version of Mo's is the live version.

While this version is extremely good, "One Night Only" (11-1997) LIVE version, for me - because I was there, hearing Robin Gibb deliver what I considered PERFECTION - literally made me shiver, hair-stand-up-on-arms hearing this man's hauntingly beautiful voice pouring out so clearly, with such emotion into that microphone - He received a standing ovation - rightfully deserved. "And the Sun Will Shine" - he also sang that night. What a gift Robin Gibb was given with his voice - and shared freely with us. The last song he recorded before passing in 2012? "Don't Cry Alone"... but I did when I learned he was gone.

This song is the first BeeGees song I ever heard when I was 9 years old. I've loved it and Robin's voice ever since. Right after that performance they split up. I'm so happy they got back together. Robin did have the most beautiful voice. Effortless. Mr Natural!!!

Robin's vibrato was legendary. Also his cupping of a hand over his ear...iconic. You still have a pretty well endless list. Jive Talking...seriously. See how they transitioned when nobody wanted them anymore. Masters of reinvention. Wish you were here and The End of the Rainbow as tributes to the brothers passing at different times too. Tribute versions are easy to find.

This is by far, the best version!Notice that whenever Robin sings this song, Barry turns away from the audience and goes to play with the band, giving Robin the entire focus. The same is true when Barry sings "Words". Roobin actually leaves the stage entirely while Barry sings his iconic solo.

The brothers gave each other the respect for their signature songs. Even now, at least in the performances I've seen, Barry does not sing I started a joke. It's usually Steven his son who sings it and Barry harmonizes with him. Steven has a Gravely heavy metal voice and adds a different dimension to this song. I think Barry is showing a lot of respect to Robin by not singing his signature song. I maybe just thinking off the top of my head but both the brothers respected each other. If you want to hear a good version of words, actually it's a interaction between Barry and the audience when he sings words, listen to words in that same Melbourne concert. I thought it was 1987 but it it must have been 89. Each of the three brothers brought to the table immense Talent. With the three of them together this Talent created a great sound, a great endearing group, with longevity. I don't think anyone will ever match the Bee Gees.

The thing about Barry turning his back versus Robin leaving the stage is that Barry actually draws attention to himself. Never do people fail to notice and comment on how Barry is giving Robin the stage because performers don't turn their back to the audience very often. It in fact draws attention away from Robin in a way that Barry simply standing as he usually did would not. You have to actively do something unusual to get any attention to yourself while Robin is singing this song. You don't notice Robin when Barry sings Words because he's not there.

I'm very harsh in judging Barry as a rule but he may be is just demonstrating that he knows this is Robin's moment and not tring to upstage him at all. And, yes, I had mentioned to you in a previous comment that his standing ovation lasted almost one minute after his amazing performance. Whenever he performed "Joke" he always received that standing o but this video actually showed it! I think that I also mentioned to you that Robin actually had most of the leads or shared them with big brother Barry in the late 60's and early 70's when they first came on the scene but the disco era really changed everything for him. Yes, a truly amazing voice from a truly amazing man who is truly loved and missed by millions, especially today, on what would have been Rob and Mo's 71st birthday - 12/22/20. Thank you for this amazing reaction on this very special day.

Thank you big brother Barry but I think Robin could have done the same job on all of the greatest hits of The Bee Gees!!! I am 71 years old and have been following the Bee Gees since 1967 when I first heard the songs like words and have always been one of the greatest friends of their’s!!! This song is iconic of course and makes us all think about our actions..like you said it means something different to all of us..Barry and Morris were so proud of Robin and this performance..each Bee Gee had a unique part in this group ( that sounded so inadequate),they are on a level of their own.each sound , whether in background or front contributed greatly to the most heart felt, gorgeous music I have ever heard..it touches my soul, because it's literally from their souls. I sit and listen intently to just keyboard..guitar. drums..each voice when you can distinguish them apart which is not often. Lol..the BeeGees are God's gift to us in times like this .
