As a business owner, you charge what the market will pay. You weren't buying stuff that is currently being produced. You were buying out of production stuff. I sold copies of the Secret Wars hardcover for $35. They sold out in a couple of hours. So I listed the next batch and put $50 on them. They sold out in about a week. Then I put the next batch at $65 and sold them all in two weeks. Finally, I started putting them out at $75 and sold 1-2 per week. I had over 100 left at that time and they continue to sell for $75. I could probably go to $80 or maybe even $90 if I was willing to accept a slower sell rate than 1-2 per week. So what your saying is that because I sold them for $35 on one day, I'm supposed to keep selling them for $35 and loose over $4000 in potential revenue? Just so some flipper can buy them for $35 and resell for $75. And if you don't you are a "scumbag" dealer? Whatever buddy. You have obviously never ran a business and you would never succeed at running one with those sales principles. If you have 5 of an item, and you don't know what price the market will bear, you might sell one for $800. If it sells, the market bears that price and you can raise the price on the next. If that sells for $1200 and you see an E-Bay sale for more than $1200 too, then the market will bear $1200. So you sell the next one for more than $1200. Rinse and repeat until you hit the peak threshold the market will bear. Business 101. As soon as you buy an out of production item, the market has changed. The smaller the quantitiy of that item on the market, the bigger and more impactful that change might be.

Ive seen them do markups multiple times with older product. Theyll have a few in stock and if I buy one, the next day that same product is marked up.

LGS's are all about the relationship with the customer base. I have never been treated better at any other kind of store. They know I have options, but I choose to keep coming back to support them. I didn't realize the economy was doing well enough that LGS"s in some areas could treat their player/customer base like crap and stay in business.

I had a similar experience sending in a buylist to an online store that I believe is no longer active, but could be wrong. It was a pretty large buylist, full of mostly bulk "nothing" cards. They were stupidly meticulous about condition. Basically, if the card had been breathed on, it was not being accepted. They ended up sending back a ridiculous amount of my buylist for condition reasons, but here's the kicker. The cards sent back were not the ones I sent. Some were in obvious played condition, and I sent nothing like that. It was mostly bulk cards, so not much value was lost, but I swore to never do business there again.

So you're upset that a store charges whatever price they can get and sets their own buy rates? You said yourself that you were able to make more money on eBay. I'm no fan of ToyWiz, but they are a top eBay seller and have been for two decades. If you can flip it on eBay, why wouldn't they just sell to the end customer? They're a retailer, not a wholesale distributor for your backpack business.
@Mike7502002 ай бұрын
I'm usually on board with your takes. These are foreign to me. You bought something from a store. Flipped it on eBay for a profit. Tried to do it again, store caught on (maybe through your own ebay listing) and decided to align their prices more in line with market. Seems how everything is supposed to work? Not sure why that makes them scummy. If anything, maybe you were a little entitled, being unhappy to not make a quick buck off a product you bought a retail store. And for the trading in cards to a store... should stores have an ethical limit on frequent fliers trading in cards at (well) below market rate? Maybe. Seems hard to nail down specifics. Know whats not hard to nail down? Personal accountability. Don't live beyond your means chasing down the high of opening cardboard. Is it addictive? Sure. Would the industry suck without that same addictive high? Yup.

So many people want their local game store to thrive over the Amazon's and the kingdoms. And the cities out there yet there's so many of them that prey on children.

It kind of makes sense most sales on eBay show what the item sold for so maybe he looked up and seen that someone just sold one on eBay for more than he sold the first one to you for not knowing it was the same pack. So he was probably like damn I can make more money off these

Its business.. and you are not the only one buying old product... You are upset that the good prices are no more. Should i be selling my cards for CHEAPER than the market price? I collect ob foils like you do. You KNOW the prices on minty old foils fluctuate like craaazy. There are SO few cards left in 9-10 condition graded or not. I dont get upset if i the price is to high.. i sometimes i get lucky and pick u a card or two. But its very hard now adays. And that wont change... You cant blame someone wanthing top dollar for their product. If u got it for a good deal earlier be happy about that instead.. This video is just you whining honestly..
