I like the idea of proxies for playtesting, so people can test the cards before they committ to trade or buy. Why not have better prizing like high end singles for tournaments for people who can remove proxies .

Great set, great foils, and surprisingly cheap sealed box price considering the age of the set and what you can pull. Last time I looked they were hovering around $600/$700 a box.

This set hits so hard. I remember opening these packs on the floor of my friends house in elementary school. No idea how to correctly play the game, making it all up as we went along, but having the most fun.

Print ribbons... this is a multi color offset print, there is no such thing as a print ribbon in a printing machine ;-) Now what seems to have happened is that the color calibration was not really a priority at the time (it isn't again these days). These cards were likely made at different times by different print shops using different inks or printing plates from different manufacturers resulting in the different vibrance of the colors. In a high quality print shop delivering high end work the colors of the final print are compared to the originally specified colors and adjusted if they deviate to far from the source. If you are working on a budget and its all about getting this stuff printed fast rather than perfect (see the centering for example) then this step is skipped entirely and its just good enough when the image is recognizable.

Back in the day, my buddy picked up a box of Avacyn Restored from Walmart that was damaged for 60 bucks. Boy, was that box a banger, too.

40 bucks per pack... Between collector sets and the sheer volume of sets being released is it really no surprise that Wizards/Hasbro is seeing record profits? lol. I worry about the future; corporations strive to always make more money as they should but what's that mean for Magic? What tactics will they employ moving forward to ensure we all keep buying at such high prices. Power creep is an inevitability in all games and anyone reading this is probably more than aware of the massive jumps in power over the past decade alone. Wizards wont reprint the reserve list but I believe there very long-term goal is to power creep/warp formats in such a way that the reserve list becomes irrelevant effectively eroding the value of the reserve list at which point new cards will be the only thing that matters forcing you to constantly buy. Look at what they did to modern and even commander... Both formats were for your "older" cards now they just directly print them for those formats.

Anything above 34 dollars for those collector packs is wasted money. To see them for 45 is not worth the return you get. Unless you got a unicorn pack that had nothing but bangers, but unicorn packs are super far and few in-between
