How did this kind of beauty come about without a million dollar sound studio, a hundred piece orchestra or a backup chorus? How did it happen in a stairwell, with a guy on an electric guitar, a microphone and a young woman? It happened because of raw talent! I would still turn him down at least Half. Accompaniment should support the soloist. Maybe hardly notice, except would be so dull without it. @@dawncanbegrumpyinthemornin1408 oh don`t bring religion into it, this was not meant to be a religious song, in fact there are many different explanations as to what Cohen meant. The bible is mentioned but it is not a song about praising a god, it just uses the word that in Hebrew means praise god but even that word is being used a s a personal ending, good or bad. It most certainly is not an uplifting tribute to a lord of any kind.

So much has already been said about this young woman's beautiful, clear, and awesome voice (and all righteously deserved) that I feel some other aspects should also be given their due. 1) The sparseness of the accompaniment is brilliant. Yes, the playing is wonderful but the choice of this arrangement is fantastic as it compliments the loneliness and angst of the song. 2) The passion and heart that goes beyond the mere beautiful gift of her voice reaches into my heart and shakes my soul. 3) What a great location! The acoustics of that stairwell worked perfectly.

Gifts, they are not ours, they are meant to be given, only when we give them do we experience the fullest potential of them for ourselves, and what a beautiful gift you share. Thank you.

Just wonderful. Great version - she sings like an angel and his understated mastery on the guitar makes it special

This is by far the best rendition of hallelujah I've ever heard... she's got the voice of an angel ❤

what is great about this version of this song is that the singer is not trying to tell us how great she is but how great the song is the singer and the song kind of meld together

The amazing acoustics of a large, cold, hard, empty stairwell served this girl well. You can't miss a note in a place like that because the sound is so full in that space. A missed note screams back in your ears like an icy wind. Whoever you are - good job. This was a joy to hear.

Pure, raw, soulful and a thing of beauty. They both give breathtaking contributions to this classic. I watch this video often. Best cover. Thanks for sharing this.

That's just cold dude. Why insult someone who's just sharing some love? I'd rather the world was filled people with his attitude, than people with yours.

Just saw this almost 6 years after they posted this---amazing! Totally got into the background, the most excellent guitar work, and that voice---that voice with the tremeloes, the force, and the shades of feeling. I'm not a vocal expert but I like what moves me. . . and I am an ancient old man who witnessed another angel (among many). There is going to be one mighty chorus sending me off. In my dreams, perchance, but a mighty chorus indeed!
@mandolinic5 жыл бұрын
Notice how she pulls back from the mic when singing the loud chorus and then moves closer on the quiet verse. You get an intimate feel on the verse, yet the chorus doesn't overload the mic and recording system. Plus the eye contact between the two of them so they're both synchronised with each other. This video is a mini-masterclass on how to record a song.

KlazyY I absolutely agree. I am an old woman and these two would have made Leonard Cohen proud. I hope they are okay and still creating music and feeling and joy

KlazyY. Yes, a mighty chorus, indeed. And some of us will hear.
