The first in a series about the history of one of the world's most historically important cities. I'll be looking into the very origins of Manchester - from an insignificant nowhere in an obscure corner of Europe to a valuable hub for the Roman expansion across the British Isles.
I'll visit the remains of the old Roman fort in Castlefield - Mamucium - including the only remaining piece of the original fort left standing, which until recently was inaccessible and forgotten about.
Finally, I'll be heading to the Castleshaw valley above Saddleworth to find a tiny outpost the Romans built there.
