Your pronunciation such a good for my hearing, like a Scottish butter for French bread. My first language is Russian and sometimes when I hear local dialect or specific way to speak people I meet, it’s too difficult to understand them. Thank you for your grate work!

This is a very clear and simple explanation of the difference and correct choice between ‘been’ and ‘gone’. I was surprised, however, that when signalling the apparent exception of ‘My wife has been at the supermarket for two hours’ Greg did not point out that the preposition had changed. ‘Been to’ (completed visit) ‘Gone to’ (current absence) but ‘Been AT’ (current absence qualified by a period of time).

So , simple Present tense needs, requires a time period in the past such as yesterday, last month, day etc, while not been. Eg : I went to the supermarket yesterday. --- I've been to the supermarket. We don't know when but we know that in this moment you are still not there. Maybe you are at home. Is that right ? So,saying I went somewhere , without saying the time period, makes the sentence wrong ?

Thanks a lot for your lessons, both instructive and enjoyable. Of course since I am not a native speaker, I cannot be sure. But if I hear "my wife has gone to the supermarket" I understand that she has left and headed to the supermarket, but I can't be sure whether she is already there or not since she might be on the way there. So by saying that I don't understand she is already there. Please clarify.
