That had to be the most delicious looking brat I have ever seen! I agree with you that Johnsonville brats are the best you can buy, and I have been using the Bunny Brat and Sausage buns for a couple of years now. What really intrigues me is your beer bath (if that's what it's called). Beer, onions, bell peppers and spices sound great, but when you added the applesauce, apple juice, and sauerkraut I was amazed! That has to give it a unique sweet and sour flavor! This is on my list of "must try" recipes. Thanks for sharing another kick ass recipe, Russ!
@valcomm510 жыл бұрын
Greg, Man, Thank you so very much brother. I really like sauerkraut. In fact, I can eat it straight from the can. My wife however, does not like it, so by adding the apple flavors to it, it calms it down enough to where she can tolerate it. We like them to be simple as well. This is my fave way to do it. Give it a try and let me know. I appreciate the kind words Greg. You rock buddy.

Russ, I love beer brats, and those looked excellent brother! Got a little tip for ya, so those dogs fit your buns, lol! Try pushing a wood skewer all the way through the dog, and then take a knife and do a spiral cut. Not only can you expand the length of the brat, but a lot of the good toppings you had will fill up in between the slots. I love the celery seed that you added to the peppers and onions! Got to give that a whirl! I'm so ready for some football brother! New Orleans Saints is my team, and have been since the year the became a franchise back in 1966. I bleed Black & Gold ;) Great video Russ :)
@valcomm510 жыл бұрын
Thank you Rus. Man that's a great tip and I've never even thought about that. It'll help the brat lay in the bun flat as well instead of curved. That's just brilliant. I love celery seed on brats. I also love it on steak as well. I just have to mellow down the Kraut flavor for my wife or she won't touch it. I know You're a Saints fan and I enjoy watching them play as well. Drew Brees is a stud. I'm really liking the matchups they have with the Rams. I can't wait for this season to get here. It's the only time I even watch TV. LOL. Blue and Gold till I'm old. Thank you so much Rus. I appreciate it brother.

Looks like a great recipe. I'm going to give it a try tonight. Oh, and when it comes to football I've been a Seahawks fan since 1976. But I love hockey even more. This would be an ideal recipe for the NHL Winter Classic on New Years Day!

Thank you Rich. Let me know how you like it. When the Seahawks first came aboard in the NFL, I was a fan. Steve Largent will go down as one of my all time faves. But, me being a Rams fan, I gotta go against ya. LOL. They really put it on the Broncos man. I love Hockey as well. The Blues are my team.

15 years in WI and this is the easiest one I saw ... beer, onions, green peppers, mustard (yellow or brown or both), brown sugar. Simmer brats first on low until it's time to grill (hour or more). You can serve them immediately or if you're making quite a few then you keep them in the stew after grilling. Also seems the cheaper, funkier beer makes better stew.

Here's a dumb question. Can you use wine for this type of marinade?
@valcomm59 жыл бұрын
Jr RGV Not a dumb question at all. I suppose you could. I've never tried it, but I'd imagine it would be good. especially with Italian sausage.
@powerplayreviews80826 жыл бұрын
Jr, you couldn't be more right dude. That.... was .... a..... dumb .... question. I'm sorry I am 3 years late but hopefully I can fix a "very wrong" wrong here. Bratwurst only go good with beer and onions and other non-fermented flavors such as Garlic. Compliment those morsels of Godliness with fresh corn-on-the-cob dipped in Wisconsin butter and lightly dusted with Himalayan salt. (Himalayan salt has natural minerals and is better for you, if you don;t use it yet change today! You're welcome) Jr listen dude... Don't be afraid to let your COTC (corn-on-the-cob, for you slow folks... not you Jr.) soak in your beer and onion marinade, not too long but you can add another flavor dimension to your already nearly perfect meal. Oh, this is painful but if you're going to let your bratwurst marinade in wine please call it something else like maybe winewurst, or sausage in wine. Brats are not a foo foo kind of thing, they are meant to eat standing by the grill with friends. Brat in one hand COTB in the other!! Everyone is trying to talk with their moths full and AT THE SAME TIME!! Yes, you're catching on.... brats are memory makers!! It doesn't get any better than that no matter where you live. Listen Jr, I'm only trying to help. If you serve your friends a glass of wine, even really good wine they forget it before they leave but if you serve your friends a couple beer brats done right and COTC they're inviting themselves back!! NO JOKE!!! So do as you wish, you will anyway, but remember this advice came from the brat God himself something like 1200 years ago. I feel bad that you are only learning it now. I hope you smiled Jr. ~ Peace!

dude, get ur ass down here an i show u how to do a proper brat,,,u got all the ingredients but the cookin is in the wrong order----simmer the brats in the stuff first for about 30 minutes and then put them on the grill,,luv the addition of the applesauce, never seen that before, nice touch ther guy-----football sucks, i like the jets and the IRISH in football----rock on dude, keep the vids flyin and that popper looked yummy as hell, do a vid on one,,,,,dont matter if someone else did one, do ur version
@valcomm510 жыл бұрын
No way dude. I sear them first to intentionally bust the skin. That way, when I put them in the brat tub, all that flavor has a chance to soak into those brats. If I simmer them first, Then little to no flavor penetrates the casing at all, so when I put them on the grill, and the casing bust, I'm losing flavor. I put the applesauce and juice in to counter the kraut flavor for my wife. She hates Kraut. I love it. That sucks that you don't like football. That popper rocked dude. Chad Wise did the exact same one and I forgot about it. LOL. It's okay. I'll find one soon. Cheers bro
