Infact this symphony is often described as the first romantic symphony.

That's because it's in C minor key and his works in this tonality have been said to be powerful and emotive, evoking dark and stormy sentiments. Also check his Piano Sonatas Nos. 5, 8 and 32, Symphony No. 5 or the Coriolan Overture.

I love this orchestra and conductor! I loved how they all moved in sync at the height of grief @ 25:25. Could never get into watching Karajan for that reason; everyone still and in perfect formation. Our musicians must emote!!!
@lisahinton96822 жыл бұрын
@Katrina T. I find the swaying and wiggling about to be a silly affectation. "Our musicians must emote"? Absurd. They are there to play the piece accurately and beautifully, not jiggle about in their chairs like bored children in a church sermon. Highly distracting, frankly. This is the last I will watch this group. Definitely have had enough, as gorgeous as they sound. The wiggly-jiggly silliness is just too absurd for my tastes.

My GOD. The minute-long passage from 21:30 - 22:40 delivers the most mind-blowingly euphoric high you’ll ever get from music. This stuff oughta be illegal.
@kerencanelo85804 жыл бұрын
Not the most, because music is so much than this and in Beethoven himself it is found more moments like this. And in other composers there are a lot of moments like this and better.

@@kerencanelo8580 I would agree. It was a bit of hyperbole, but it’s a great passage that gives me goosebumps every time I hear it. Off the top of my head, I’d say the final couple minutes of Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony are the most exhilarating and emotionally intense moments of any music I’ve ever heard. 8th is great too.

@@foveauxbear Thank you. It's good that those who disagree with remarks made here post their opinions. I've never understood the adulation Mr Karajan enjoys. @@tserkoslavjanskij Yes : the performance of Beethoven's music by Karajan is great, but it is no "pure Beethoven" it is more "Beethoven by Karajan".
