The impulsive, improvisational style reminds me young Barenboim. Magnetically played and a fresh take on the Beethoven sonatas. Obviously sometimes it will work and others it doesn’t.

What a completely unconventional approach Bellucci takes: quirky, rough&ready, downright strange (as in, sit up and take notice). Who comes to mind? Glenn Gould, but far less eccentric, and far more in sync with Beethoven. Bellucci can certainly be "off-kilter," but in a marvelous way. Frankly, I've never heard the sonatas played in this fashion; it's eye-opening, refreshing, and oh so very, very different. Yes, Bellucci can tweak a tad much, but his "mannerisms" seem so in the music's service that they become the norm. I like "different," especially performed like this. Bellucci knows exactly what he's doing, and I find him intoxicating. As well, the piano sound, even on KZbin, is phenomenal---- the overtones, alone! One listens to Bellucci and wonders: What will he do next? Not the only set of Beethoven to own, but necessary for any serious collection.

I have not heard Beethoven interpreted this way before. Completely unorthodox and honestly don't know what to think.

I’ve never heard Beethoven played like this. Much more rubato. Sudden changes in dynamics and tempo. I’m not sure what to make of it, really. Certainly different and interesting.

. . j'adore

The whole recording is amazing. I’m particularly moved by the Haydn dedicated sonatas second movements. Bellucci achieves something magical here.

His interpretation of these wonderful sonatas by Mr Bellucci gave me time to think about them and enjoy every nuance. This is the only pianist who has ever demonstrated the very puckish humour that Beethoven infused into his music Differently brilliant thank you. Will there be a Volume 2?

This is so eccentric it's almost distracting. But intriguing. I'll have to live with it for a while before rendering judgement. First time in a while that I've started a Beethoven PS set and wanted to listen to it through though.

I've listened to, and studies these Sonatas; so speak with some authority saying that obviously Mr Bellucci never had Beethoven smiling over his back like Schnabel and particularly Backhaus when recording these works - much too wayward and inconsistent in the inferior Kempff mode...
@syourke35 жыл бұрын
s1earle Yet you have to admit its different from the standard fare. I wonder what Beethoven would think if he heard it. To modern ears, it sounds a bit over the top and perhaps self indulgent. But it was the age of sentiment. Who can say? Basically, I share your take on it. I’m not convinced. Too much sighing and gesticulating for my taste.
