Mug up Mike. Good morning from central New Hampshire where it is dark and 48 f at 5:40 am. I'm with you on feeding bees, but here I am... buying big blue bags of the white stuff, mixing it thick and feeding bees...Thanks for sharing, always a pleasure, have a great week!

Hey Mike. Feeding a little here in central Oklahoma as well. We had a long dry spell and some of the hives got pretty light. Sloppin hogs I say. lol. That is a cool beetle trap. I’ll have to check those out. I think I’ve killed more beetles by pressing the tops of the beetle blasters than they actually catch. 😅. Thanks for the nice video.

@@JeromeBeeFarm thank you my friend. Yes, I know the feeling on that dry weather. That’s was us last season. I appreciate you stopping in!!

Been saying the same thing about the bees eating me out of house and home! Feel like a witch with a cauldron stirring, stirring! Amazing how much those bees can drink!

Mike, thank you for all your videos. Where do you get your 1 gallon buckets and your plugs for hive and bucket.

I got those from Bob Binnie’s store in north Georgia when I was passing thru. Greg Burns at Nature Image Farms has them as well.

Nice video, I just ordered some of those beetle traps and I'll be using DE too. Thanks Mike.

We have been lucky this year in central Louisiana , i've only seen one or two at most in the hives, don't know what happen, but usally they are pounding me at this time of the year, knock on wood it stays like this. Great looking traps , best part is being able to refill them. Take care Mike.

Hello again Mike . Did not know what your weather is saying for you down there . But I usually watch Ryan Hall on KZbin an I still do but I have found another one I have been watching for a while . It is DW Direct weather. Do not know if you have ever watched either one of them but they go deep into the weather. Well anyway the way the DW is saying you an the east may be getting a pretty nasty storm coming up. He said there is a front down below you an it is coming up somewhere 🤷♂️🤷♂️. But to me it looked closer to the pan handle . Just a thought. Have a good week.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Well, I never wish a storm on anyone, but awkwardly I am glad it is missing us this time around. It is going thru my hometown area, so I am in touch with friends and family and on standby to help. The Low Pressure over us is keeping it east of us…

Thanks Mike, just went and ordered some beetle traps, I only have one hive that has quite a few beetles I think these traps will do the trick, thanks for the info, God bless

Going to hav3 to order a few of these
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
They’re much nicer than the beetle blasters.
@VladvikingАй бұрын
I like those. I've been thinking of how to clean my blasters since they have now doubled in price. And the oil is bound to make a mess every time you piddle with them. Hate not to use any because each trap always nets around twenty and the more you put in a hive the more you catch.

Thank you Mike! We are always looking for better easier tools for beekeeping and been really happy with these beetle traps. Thank you again sir!

I like that veil. I had a question on your hives I use the telescoping top I bet they are cheaper. Goldenrods are everywhere here in upstate SC
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
I’ve never really seen a difference in the telescoping covers versus the migratory. Bees do fine under both and so I figure I save money on migratory and don’t have to keep up with two pieces of equipment. I have a few telescoping covers and I don’t like them. That veil is easy and convenient and I think HillCo is actually making some improvements to it as well. We’re seeing g golden rod start to bloom and I smelled some in a couple hives already.

I'm using Ken Davis receipe for beetle grease and dixie sheets with Lots of success in Darlington S.C.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Yes, I’ve seen his grease. Several versions of beetle grease are made by others too. I have never really tried them, but then again, I really don’t do much for the beetles anyhow. I like Greg Burns’ recipe as well.

Ken Davis from Inola Oklahoma. He teaches essential oil classes.
@researcherAmateurАй бұрын
I sow them empty a two frames space feeder (6 liter) those black ones in under an hour. No beetles here.. you need a sifter for separating dry earth from them. For pollen, here in Europe i find plastic bottom boards with the option of collecting pollen in a big tray that were cheap and i bought them 200 in Serbia over three years time. They were super cheap in a convention and I grabbed them 100 at once. Had a friend with a big truck over there. I think if you write 'Gligorijevic techno-plast' something should pop out. As bottom boards they will outlast me. I use air flow and gravity to clean my pollen.. made a machine where l slowly pour pollen and the air from a vent pushes out the light stuff when the pollen drops down. A metal mesh under would filter the beetles and big stuff. You would need what we call a potentiometer to regulate the flow of air. I sell a lot of 50/50 honey - pollen jars.

Hey, where can I find the veil that you're wearing?
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
HillCo sells them. That’s where I got this one.
@karenpruitt6833Ай бұрын
Do you have to worry the DE getting into the brood cells? It's used in soil to desiccate grubs.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
No, the DE stays in the trap. The bees can’t get to it and I’ve used it on stands and around boxes and the bees leave it alone.

Question Could you not use sand and have the same results. Just asking because I found a good bit of beetles in my hive and looking to find away to deal with them
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
Sand won’t kill the beetles, so I would have to say no. The DE gets in the joints of the beetles and cuts them up, killing them.

@edmartin875Ай бұрын
Those beetle traps will rise in price when everyone notices how good they are, and the word gets out. If there is some way to keep the humidity down, it would pay to buy a good supply while the price is at it's lowest.
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
I imagine so. Supply and demand. At least once we have them, they can be used for very and over. Thanks for watching Ed!
@lomavistabeecoАй бұрын
I’m glad I don’t have to mess with beetles (knock on wood). Better be careful nowadays or the beetle police will get after you like they did Joey
@rodkirt9273Ай бұрын
Why don’t you drain the excess sugar water into your 5 gallon bucket ? 🤷♂️
@edmartin875Ай бұрын
It ferments in the heat. I think bee spit stops all that.
@edmartin875Ай бұрын
Edit - Bee spit stops most fermentation
@MikeBarryBeesАй бұрын
It’s a negligible amount and it really doesn’t make much difference. In the end some has to get drained regardless and it wouldn’t keep more than a day or so.
