Movie was WAY too convoluted with no real payoff to any one of the many pointless stories. Not enough of Beetlejuice, characters that were resonably eccentric before were now just outrageously cartoony at best and superfluous. there was absolutely NO REASON for a 5 minute uncomfortable and boring musical piece at the end. You know they had NO ideas for this movie as they ended it exactly like the first movie.......with Beetlejuice getting married and the antagonists being eaten by a sandworm. And it KILLED me that they had Elfman's score and didn't even use it beyond the pre-credits.

He's nothing but helpful to the Deetz's, helps Lydia break away from her manipulative boyfriend, keeps his end of the bargain with tricks or loopholes, but gets screwed over because of a lazily written rule in the death book that he would have already known about given how old and experienced he is.

Hollywood used to create new original ips which they could rely on for income, of which when that ip had done its job, the ip ended up in a vault with the aim of making room for the next ip. Then when the time was right, they bring out their older ips, with the aim of making new movies, which for us movie goers was a treat, as we usually had to wait 10-20 years for a classic ip return. example the return of Star wars with ep 1 was some massive news, same goes for Terminator 3. Nowdays it seems that Hollywood only bets on their older ips, which means that they will not have any new ips to build up in their vault, but they will only have their already milked ips.

I've long maintained for myself that a sequel to a good story should only be made if there's a WHOLE NEW story to tell using the same characters, that PROGRESSES them from where and when they were when we LAST saw them (NOT REGRESS them to what they were where and when we FIRST saw them), and not be a re-tread of the original story. The vast majority of sequels don't really fulfill these requirements and are therefore unnecessary. If I want to see the same story told again, I just go back and watch the first film. Beetlejuice Beetlejuice just rehashes the first film, has no clear direction, and appears to have been made solely because nobody had any better ideas and wanted to do something before Michael Keaton truly becomes too old to do it.

Lydia trying to manage with these weird visions of beetle juice stalking her. All while we cut to a second/third plot where juice’s ex comes into play. Giving a motive for juice to even help. The Boy convinces Ortega/Astrid to go into the after life after the realization of his ghostly existence. Somewhere along the line Lydia’s mom goes through the wake of her husband. Setting up a reason to be there. Lydia now has to turn to the main man juice. Have “the juice is loose” scene. Though juice is the antagonist yet again, he is willing to help for a price. Keep the man as his character. No need to change him up that much. He’s a scam artiest. That’s his whole thing. All you need. We don’t need feminist Shakespeare in there. We keep bob. Bob is good.

it was decent. It could have been a hell of a lot worse. Seems like the cool thing to do at the moment is just dislike all the movies out and drama farm. I went in to it after seeing a few KZbinrs give it 1/10's and 5/10's, so thought "okay its going to be dog shit." But had a few genuine laughs, and a few jumpscares too. And I dont scare easy in films. I found IT to be tame and boring, FNAF games are just assaults on your senses and Jeepers Creepers makes me buck in the chair but thats it. But this film had a genuine "ahh" out of me twice.

I agree. Man everyone is so negative these days. Was it perfect? No but I still had a good time. I thought willem dafoe was hilarious in his role. Keaton did great. Everyone else was fine. Surprisingly no one is calling this woke ha ha. You know whenever I hear someone start their argument with it wax woke. Their opinion immediately doesn't matter to me.

It was ok. But no, I looked for fun in this Beetlejuice sequel myself and yet STILL got bothered by all the uneven uses of all the plots and this is the second time we watch Jenna Ortega get tricked by some boy who turns out to be a ghost/monster, another Alfred Gough-Millar writing disaster

@@adamandannaLet me tell you then. Beetlejuice and Lydia for the most part carried the movie, but everything else was a snooze. I'm literally a colored asian myself so I'm not even going to start with trying to explain how I'm not blaming anything on "woke", the movie is simply badly-written.

It's not a "cool" thing to criticize movies for the things you didn't like about them. The producers are obligated to deliver good products, we can't just consume shit-ass slop.

I didnt care much for it, but it was nice to see Beetlejuice again.

It was a so bad. I agree you could drop so much of it. There was something there it could have been. Like Beetlejuice and Lydia could have bonded over saving Her daughter. That would have been so much better than what we got. The truth is Bettlejuice never once lied to here and did exactly what he promised ever time. There could have been something neat there.

I enjoyed the movie, but I agree with you about certain things. The best part of the movie was the relationship between Lydia & Astrid, the relationship between Lydia & her boyfriend wasn't needed especially when he made Beetlejuice look good, the ending was just confusing. Outside of that,it was good

The movie with overstuffed with characters and subplots. They focused on Charles Deetz who should have been written out completely to focus on Lydia, her daughter and perhaps, Delia and of course Beetlejuice. After years of potential, this was massively underwhelming.

I agree with everything he says, but I liked it. Yes there's a lot going on, a lot of stories but I think it all comes together at the end. Yes the first one was better this is a sequel to a movie about a decade old, and the same with a lot of sequels these days. If Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice came out in the 90s or early 2000s it might have been well received. I think the story, yes a lot going on but I still liked it. I wasn't expecting an amazing sequel from a movie that came out decades ago but I still had a fun time I did laugh about as much as I did in the first one I wasn't rolling on the floor with the first one and I wasn't here and I liked the practical effects. I just don't know what happened from the trailer everyone was on board till seeing the movie and hating it.🤷♂️ I give it 6🪲out of 10👍🏼

I almost got a copyright claim for using the clip that's already in there. I had to cut it down from a longer version. And by "longer" I mean like 1/20th of a second longer.

valid points. I liked it just fine, not as strong as the first one for sure. Some jokes worked for me but some didn't;. I liked Dafoe in this. maybe his character wasn't laser focused but I enjoy a lot of his bits. I agree on Justin Theroux he was just kind of there and I knew he was up to no good and Monica belluci just gets all this build up and then gets eaten by a worm. I liked that Lydia had some issues with constantly seeing dead people, it reminded a bit of Laurie strode in Halloween being traumatized a bit. Jenna ortega was fine, she made some mistakes but she is a teenage girl. I still like Michael Keaton in the role, I will say I can;t quote as many funny lines as the first one, but a lot of his stuff was riffing off the cuff, so 36 years later maybe he isn;t quite as sharp at it. Overall, I liked it, not a perfect movie and I can acknowledge some flaws but still better then other cash grabs sequels, at least there was some genuine effort put into it. The writing just seems to be a problem for a lot of Hollywood. When is comes to critiques most of it usually comes down to the writing. At least it wasn't the crow,

Just going by your review here, Top Gun: Maverick is the needle in the haystack of classic movies (30+ years) that meaningfully carry the story forward. I remain curious about it, and would like to see it for myself.
