I disagree, I think they both are tools and it’s just about using them in a complimentary manner, take the people standing on the airplane for instance; only a section was on set and had to be extended, that’s the part that gets done digitally with vfx. There’s no point at plotting the two against each other because they are part of the same team working on the same goal, making visually stunning movies

By the way, this year I made my first stop-motion animation. I recorded a miniature garbage can tipping over. A terribly tiring process, you have to have a lot of patience.

Hopefully this encourages other filmmakers to incorporate stop motion into a live action environment. The problem with stop motion back in the 80’s and early 90’s is the compositing. However, now we’re at a point where you can put a stop motion character in the same frame as a live action actor and it can look seamless.
