It's usually the lower budget because when you have an imaginative filmmaker like Tim Burton, you can go wildly creative with little money you have compared to now. I was not able to find any evidence in the drafts supporting this. As far as I can tell it's false. However here's OPs comment rewritten with a semblance of coherence: Fun fact: In the original script, before Beetlejuice was grabbed by Barbara after saying something pervy about Lydia's scrapped sister, he was supposed to be riding a motorcycle. When Barbara grabbed him, the motorcycle would crash, and as she held him, spikes were supposed to stick through Barbara's hand, injuring her. After she dropped him, Beetlejuice was supposed to fall with a parachute.

The sequel was still pretty funny, and Jenna Ortega was also good as Lydia's daughter. I would have liked to have seen the Maitlands again in some capacity, but given that the actors are 36 years older and Alec Baldwin has been partially responsible for a real-life deadly tragedy, it probably couldn't ever happen. They might have been able to get away with their disembodied voices or not have their faces depicted in a similar way to Charles Deetz, but that may not have worked well with the sequel's style. We can only hope that a potential third film or spinoff TV series could finally give us a proper sendoff to the Maitlands.

For those of you talking about Jeffrey Duncan Jones, he never quit acting. He went on hiatus for a little bit but he was in a film as recently as 2019. He is still active in his acting career. He got busted in 2003 and did Deadwood which was 2004. And was in Deadwood the movie 2019. I don't see why people think his career was over and he faded into obscurity when he continued to act. Y'all act like this industry isn't full of child abusers who will continue to hire other child abusers. He was just the most public. Y'all think it's like racism where racists behind closed doors won't associate with the more overt, loud racists. Child abuse comes in many forms, including hitting children. People kind of congregate around abusing children and celebrate children not having rights or being allowed to be treated as people. It's 2024 and there are still people who think they shouldn't apologize to their children when they're wrong. There are people that believe children can't be sick, stressed out, or traumatized (outside of sexual abuse). But then suddenly people understand that children are people when it comes to being sexually abused. It's really weird. But anyway, yeah, an abuser and manipulator in an industry of abusers and manipulators is still going to be able to survive and succeed. But apparently Tim Burton didn't agree because Chuck was in the second movie but JJ wasn't.
