@@Hanz13171 I just couldn't get past certain things such as how tanks and flamethrowers were inaccurately depicted. How they were shown resembled what they were like, but as time goes on, it becomes like a game of telephone where the end result is just a distortion. The end of the movie also did not make any sense. What large-scale actions were being conducted on Nov 11th 1918 close to 11 am? To my knowledge, this did not occur, because it would not have affected the terms of the Armistice. Happy to be corrected if I am wrong about that.

I watched it in Australia. It was all right. Not great. Not ground breaking. Not 1917. A few things I had issues with it, (the elderly junior officers, the lack of any weapon more complex than a Lee Enfield) but considering the budget they did all right. Simple story of one digger’s war. Don’t go in expected a masterpiece.

One of the best songs about War (in my opinion of course) is "The Band Played Waltzing Matilda" by The Pogues (Originally by Eric Bogle but The Pogues play it better). The Australian and NZ governments (And South Africa and USA) had no real business in WW1 and to a lesser extent, WW2. They sent thousands of their boys to die in a conflict made in Europe just so that all the 0.1%ers could get their snouts in the pig trough.

@@bobclifton8021 I realise a need to a large extent with the fact that men should be good at holding arms (a sword etc) we should definitely do this but all of the further iterations of war to date have accelerated it into something that it was never intended to be. Old war was somewhat honourable but this modern incarnation of this human proclivity has created something very distopian. Do you see what I mean, two men or armies who have a sword fight, they all trained for it and did their best but I could just waste away some dude in a cave in Afghanistan or Pakistan with the click of a button now, and go home and walk the dog and not think about it for a moment longer.
@bobclifton8021

@@ChrisInToon War was never honorable. Sometimes men fought honorably, but the war itself was and is never honorable. Most of those who do the fighting and dying know little about and have little to do with the political arguments that triggered the war in the first place. it the diplomats and politicians had to do the fighting things would change in a quick hurry. As long as they have the ordinary citizen to do the fighting and dying it will always remain the same.

Sadly, they cannot make a decent WW1/2 war film anymore. The hasn't been any in a long time.
