When I was probably 8 years old (2006), he came to Gruene Hall here in Texas. My dad had always raised me listening to his kind of music and I loved his Leon Russel CD. I was singing along to every song I knew on the stairs up to the stage and his drummer noticed me and was just amazed that I knew the words to the songs. When the show was over he told me to follow him and took me to their tour bus. He went in for a second, came back out and told me to give him something to sign, that Leon never signs anything and that I need to give him something, I gave him the shirt off my back, he came back out moments later with the shirt signed by every member of the band and his drumstick that he used that night. I'll never forget that.

I've had the pleasure of meeting Leon several times. After my wife's and had the first meeting, we were considered friends. After the second meeting, he actually remembered our names. It was then that all we had to do was let the box office know to tell Leon we were there and backstage after show all access was given to us. We always had a conversation with Leon and let him know that we were appreciative. He was a great person. Oh.....and by the way....always had killer food for everyone.

BTW The food was ALWAYS GREAT....I CAN SAY THAT

Using George Harrison for clickbait. The video barely mentions the relationship between him and Leon Russel. Harrison’s early influences were people like James Burton and Carl Perkins. He incorporated them into his music and fairly quickly developed his own style. You can hear the influence in What Goes On from Rubber Soul. Harrison kills it. Russell began his relationship with Harrison as a studio musician that developed into a lifelong friendship. I saw Harrison live on tour I believe in 1972. Awesome show even though Harrison was recovering from a cold and sore throat it was still so awesome.

It was all instrumental, but there were no electronics in sight... It's actually quite listenable. Harrison's SECOND ALBUM, however, was Electronic Sounds, an absolute mess consisting of trying and failing (mostly failing), while droodling on one of the worlds first synthezisers.. When he finished the songs with Ringo and George, he decided to shelve them and write more songs on his own so he could get all of the publishing. Leon was more than likely both bipolar and autistic. Reading the book Leon Russell by Bill Janovitz shed a lot of light on that. Leon was a forceps baby, which is what more than likely caused his neurological problems that weakened his right side!

He did not come back to his studio in Tulsa. By that time the studio was being run by Tulsan Steve Ripley. There is no mention of his success in 1971 at being part of the concert for Bangladesh.
