Here I go over Track Mute function on the mpc live mk2 or mpc one, this is my way of finalizing a beat and printing it to my DAW to master and publish. as many of you know I love boom bap sample-based music production on the mpc as the mpc workflow is my favorite for sampling and arranging music.

I usually just copy the sequence X amount of times, and start editing then go to song mode. This seems more organic. good shit

Definitely more into performing the beat than the technical side but still working out workflow. Song mode alone felt too slow but track mutes with long sequence I def need to do feels more creative. After that maybe adding touches with sp404 maybe the one.. thanks you!

Thank you for your videos that are teaching me to use MPC ONE. I have a question about the Track Mute: how do I mute an audio track recorded via the audio input in (in this case a real electric bass)? In the track mute I only display the tracks created by the midi section. Maybe you could make a video to explain how to manage the mute/active even for audio tracks recorded from the outside. Hey David, thank you so much for taking the time and asking this question. Most of my workflow isn’t standalone but every now and then I will go ahead and record (print) My final beat mix from the MPC into a Ableton just to add a limiter if it needs it as a final mastering touch. There’s a lot of beats that I just use my compressor pedals and finish it off like that.

I love your work flow on the Akai MPC Live I had the MPC 2000XL years ago before switching to strictly a daw workstation but I’m looking to get back to the stand alone workflow again so I can have the best of both worlds I’m looking to invest into the Akai MPC Studio any advice you can give me as far as implementing the Mpc Workflow with my Daw Workflow .

I have a similar background to you, I also started with the 2000 XL and I was a bit iffy with these newer MPC‘s till I gave it a shot and now I do not look back lol I actually wanted to do a hybrid set up as well but without thinking about it now I’m just finishing my entire beat mainly within the hardware of the MPC, only when it comes down to mastering I’ll do those final touches in a DAW but that is if it needs it

Hey brother, it hurts me because I actually had a section that I deleted from this video talking about those of us that are completely Dawless, but if we do not have a computer I would highly recommend a small portable recorder something like the zoom H6 that allows you to print your beats onto an SD card and it’s ready to go. When it comes down to mastering I personally would recommend using the limiter that the MPC comes with, it’s not my personal favorite when it comes down to limiting but it does a pretty great job and that is something I would use if I had no computer with plugins.

Great question, I have the 404 in this video for different texture and tone to the overall mix. I’m going to be working on a video very soon comparing different boxes like the 404, analog heat, performer by mod BAP and a few other hardware boxes just to take a closer look what types of color and texture it will add to an overall mix.

You know when I'm listening to classic productions from Lord Finesse or Pete Rock or Eric Sermon from mid 90s i was always curious about that sound quality and how this low end drums and bass was punching thru...I guess they had some serious analogue SSL compressor etc...was chasing the rabbit over last years and couldn't get that quality anyway...If you got any know how knowlege about this particular period of time in production would na nice to hear Your take on that...Once again much Love and Respect for your videos brother! Hey Malo! I found this video misleading because most time you are actually NOT talking about the MPCs mute feature but sound design, FX on the master signal of your beat etc. What you should have mentioned imho is the fact that you can record your track mutes in real time in the MPC. So, to me the easiest way would be to arrange all your different sequences in song mode, then record your mutes in realtime and once you' re happy with the song structure convert everything into one big sequence.

I’ve been using Mpc studio since 2020. And Everytime I export a track song etc. there is always a silence added at the beginning. I am exporting as wav too 🤷

If I was trying to go completely computer free how would you recommend "printing" the beat? I've been using GarageBand on my iphone to record the MPC do you have any other suggestions?

I’m so glad you mentioned this but at the same time I feel bad because I actually had a section talking about a complete dollars set up but I took it out since the video was getting too long. I would highly recommend you look into something like a zoom H6 recorder which will allow you to print your beats into an SD card that is attached to the recorder, once you print your bed it’s pretty much ready to go as a wave or an MP3 file.
