And what issues does the 4 cam 4.6 have? I know the lt1 had distributor issues that can only be fully fixed by literally going to a coil on plug ignition like the LS cars. It had the 4l60e trans which is a known terrible transmission.

Let's not forget the car on which the '94-'96 Impala SS is based and mechanically identical , the Caprice 9C1-"Police Package". Though you had to be careful if the 9C1 that your were purchasing at government auction didn't come the 4.3 liter "baby LT1" the L99. (Though that option did come with slightly shorter 3.23 rear gears as opposed to the 3.08's that came with the LT1's). Also the 9C1 did come with heavier gauge steel body frame and all of the body mount fasteners installed hence stiffer. Back in the day(the '90s to early 2000's) the move made by the GM B-Body enthusiasts were to buy and keep the Impala SS's stock to retain collectors' value and buy a LT1 equipped 9C1 at auction for a few thousand and mod the hell out of that for hotrodding and racing purposes. You are 1000% right @Theblackcarguru. The Impy always won due to way bigger aftermarket and cheap modibility.

I just purchased a 2016 challenger hellcat. With 15k mil on it!!! Ok, let me tell you how it went down; I walked in to a ford dealer for parts on my ranger ( Thermostat) but before I went to parts department I walked around the lot looking for a maverick wanted something a Lil bigger to be able to drive my kids around my 2011 ranger is to cramped. The sales guy showed up when I was looking at the hellcat. I asked the salesman how much would payment be on the hellcat. Long story short, I drove home with the hellcat. The crazy thing was that the dealer wanted sold.... its a buyers market right now take advantage. And p.s I traded in my 98 gmc short bed and $0 down for the hellcat and still have my work truck.

Got much Love for both myself the Marauders I’ll take as well, but I’d probably say the impala wins that LT1 / (Forgotten LT4 In the corvette of that era) could work in that car too, those engines platforms had so many ways you could approach it , not to mention as you said LS swaps, it things are just sometimes more plentiful and cost effective with the Chevy. My personal favorite sleeper wast the 94-96 fleetwoods and Buick road master with LT1

Sad thing is Ford was too late to the party. The Mercury Marauder came out 7 years after the last rear wheel drive Impala SS was made. Ford could had jumped on the bandwagon within months or a year. The Mercury Marauder is nothing but a Grand Marduis with the police package suspension, drivetrain and Marauder emblems. Daimler saw the open market and ran with it with the 300 and charger. Then took it next level with the performance packages every year. GM tried to counter with the G8 and the SS, but failed due to bailout and marketing of the vehicles.

The "police" package Crown Vic was never sold with the 4 cam 4.6. They weren't even more hopped up drivetrain wise than a basic Crown Vic. Ford did build a very small amount of Cobra powered manual crown Vic's for Bob Bondurant driving school but we are talking like 25-50

Sorry but to me the Buick T type with turbo package (colored grand national) in 86. 87 was the cheapest sleeper of the time. A computer chip and a few minor mods and it was running high 12s. Vettes ran 14.5, mustangs ran 15s at that time.
