Good video! After restoring several vintage Mustangs my advice to most (not all) people who dream of restoring a classic by themselves is this: Make money in YOUR chosen field and then buy the best finished car you can. And start enjoying it immediately. Then it doesn't sit in your shed while life passes you by. If I had a nickel for every amateur that had big dreams but never finished restoring their car I could buy a '67 GT500.

This takes away the fun of enjoying a car YOU built. You can’t do anything till you try. Sure, it’s not for everyone and can be intimidating and also aggravating, BUT the cost to save a finished fastback is out of most peoples budget.

@@ScottHarness1 hello sir, do you do the coupe to fastback conversions for others. Thank you
@ScottHarness1 Жыл бұрын
@@julioarenas8476 I don't. I know there are great guys out there that do, but I also know it is expensive. Over a year ago I did some research on those doing the conversions and the prices were reasonable but as the price of VIN fastbacks continued to go up and the popularity of the conversion climbed the cost to do it climbed as well. Presently my recommendation is if you are going pay to have the conversion done I would buy an actual VIN fastback and do the work from to it, the total cost will be more but the potential for gain will be higher as well. The reason is if you are going to put that high of an investment in the car you need to look at it as an investment that you need a return on. Conversions have a return but not enough to pay for all the metal work to be done by a shop.

So I agree with almost this entire video but one part the cowl panel part. I worked at a restoration shop for 5 years and and it’s in your best interest in your investment to replace that lower cowl panel from factory they weren’t painted the only paint that was ever put in the inner cowl to protect that metal was from the overspray shot through the cowl vents so almost all need to be replaced I would still mark that as a yellow not a deal breaker but a hell of an undertaking for the average person because there are at least 100 spot welds on that cowl but that’s my two sense this is a great video though !! I just bought a 67 coupe yesterday the body is in insanely good condition i was actually surprised it has a fresh coat of primer on it and no rust bumps or sheet metal holes honestly the only negatives i have to say is that it has a lost title and that it has an automatic transmission but what makes up for that is it runs and driving fule and brake lines are basically brand new feels like it just needs new brakes and it has a 302 in it!! Picked it up for 4 grand of the forsale group

Here in Mo you can build a trailer and get a vin put on it from the highway patrol, I wonder if you can do the same with a reproduction crate or boxed body by showing a bill of sale for said parts but you will have to build it from scratch. Guys build fiberglass cars. And you see them with tags on them. If its all new parts there has to be a way around this thats legal.

I live in Wisconsin, getting titles isnt too bad but it takes a couple months. If the car ur rebuilding is older than 20 years old n the engine is over 20 years old u can get a hobbyists rebuild title without going through inspection. Once u get the title u can switch the motor to whatever u want. U can also get abandoned car titles by taking pictures of all 4 corners n vin number n pay fees but its a longer process waiting for stuff to be mailed back n forth.

Pastor Scott, what Church? I have to say you're very honest and you put together a very good video for a person that wants to do this conversion that doesn't know a lot about Mustangs, or how to do any work on them from the start. I lived and breathed first gen Mustangs as a young man and I still love them today. I've owned a 65 V8 4 speed convertible before all the aftermarket sheet metal was available. I had tons of fun with my 65, but the floor was a bit rusty when I bought it, and as a rusty convertible gets worse, what happens? The doors don't close well. I ended up selling it for parts because at the time, it wasn't worth saving. Then I bought a 69 Mach 1 351 4 speed car that also needed areas of the floor repaired, and yes the torque boxes as well. By this time, some aftermarket sheet metal parts were becoming available, but still not everything. So, I had a shop do the repairs to the torque boxes and floor. Yes I was young, the car was solid when got it back, but the shop pieced it together with sheet metal and rectangular steel tubing. Yeah, I thought they were going to use the new repair panels that came out, oh well, lesson learned. But along the way I had learned to MIG weld and remove panels by drilling out the spot welds and how to weld in the new ones. Eventually, I worked my way up to owning a 67 Shelby GT350 4 speed car that had some damage that I was able to repair myself. Yes, this was a long time ago (1983, or 84 before I got married). I paid $4,500 for the Shelby with a Title. I had to borrow a pickup truck and rent a car trailer to retrieve the car from PA and bring it to New England. In the end, I sold the car in 1993 or 94 for $15,000 and the interior needed to be finished but I had all the parts to get it done. Then of course, Shelby prices went through the roof and an average guy isn't able to own one. So, yeah, I'd love to have another 67/68 Fastback, but at my age, I'm not able to do the work myself, so it's more of a nice dream than a reality. I sure like watching what everyone's doing with these cars; it makes me feel young again. I have liked and subscribed to your channel and I'll be following along with your build. I have a lot to watch, but I see all the extra work you've done to your Mustang thus far, and I know it's going to be a great car when it's finished.

I love comments like this! Thank you my friend. I agree its almost therapy building things... Was that 351 in your 1969 a Cleveland? I am considering building a car that is in a junk pile right now. It's a coupe that I will convert and I thought about putting a stroker Windsor in it with Cleveland heads on it or maybe a stroker Cleveland... I'd love to have a set of those old prostock heads that Bob Glidon and others ran that had the port plates on them. It'd be a fun car with a classic top loader.

Absolutely, now in my opinion the 1969 or 70 aren't worth the conversion presently because good fastbacks are available at a price point that is reasonable enough. But the first gen 64-66 and second 67-68 are for sure worth the conversion. You're going to get a better car with new metal than a rusted fastback. The end value won't be the same as a fastback however depending on the parts you use restomods are selling for the same price as vin fastbacks.

Why did you say the list was free and the link is $10? Kind of misleading....
@ScottHarness111 ай бұрын
The video is a year old… if $10 is a stretch for ya I’d not tackle the conversion for sure.

Dude we understand you made a list. Thank you for making it. But spending the first 10 mins telling us you made a list is severe overkill. I had to skip thru the video just to make sure you actually started telling us something else!

Thanks for the input. Lol.

Scott, this is the second of your videos I have watched. You open by saying you do not want to waste our time but it takes 4 -5 minutes of intro talking before you get down to true information. Everything you said in the first 10 minutes, you say again later in your video. I would appreciate it if you would talk less and say/show more. Do not take this personal, it is just my critique. I like your project and your effort.

Also, you couldn't be more wrong about rule #1. Yes, every state is different but there's this little thing called the "Vermont Loophole", and it's available to anyone no matter what state you live in. It's a tried and true method and there's plenty of info out there on the interweb on how to do it!
@CzechSixTv2 жыл бұрын
@@ScottHarness1 Hudson Solutions is partially correct. As long as the VIN is clean it's not difficult to get a transferable registration from VT(they don't title vehicles over 15 years old) that can be used to obtain a title from your home state. I've done it with several basket case motorcycles and cars with lost titles. The key is to get the VIN run by a local LE agency BEFORE you start the process. Once you know the VIN is clean, you just need proof of that and a signed bill of sale. You can then register the vehicle in VT(regardless of home state) through the mail.

@@ScottHarness1 I've done this with my 66 coupe. Have plates from VT in my hand! It works.

I know your a preacher so please forgive my language but I’ve found in my 40 years of life if it has tits tires or tracks it’s gonna cost you money!
Yeah if $10 is a stumbling block I'd recommend not doing this at all. You can't buy the welding wire for one fender for $10.
