I put a diamond blade on my Mclane edger and had a buddy keep it wet with the hose, and used it to cut concrete. The engine is the 2 hp Briggs and it worked. These edges are durable. Good video. Didn't know they now use Honda motors on the Mclane edges.

Does your Mclane edger have 8 inch wheels? I'm trying to find replacement wheels for my Mclane edger. The edger originally came with the 8 inch yellow plastic wheels with the rubber tires. I would rather have the black steel wheels like you have on yours. What gets confusing is the plastic wheels have different part numbers for the front and rear while the steel wheels have one part number for both the front and the rear. Can you look at your wheels and tell me if all four wheels have the same hub width, offset and backspacing?

I have had my McClane for about 15 years. I bought it at Home Depot on DEEP SALE as it was returned missing a part or two. I made some pretty immediate mods to mine as well. First was the same bend in the debris deflector. That lasted many years, but has since found it's way to the scrap. The second and much bigger mod was building sort of a prototype raised handlebars. I am 6'3" and these machines are made for short people. ( I did ask McClane if they had a taller machine and got kind of a nasty answer). :( Anyway, I pulled off the rubber grips and slid some 1/2" PVC pipe over the bars. Added a few elbows and a few short pieces of the same pipe and made it into kind of a horse shoe. I sort of felt it out and ended up raising the crossbar with 2 longer upright pieces of the PVC. Glued it all up to try it out and I am absolutely sold. I had planned to build actual steel tube handles if my prototype worked well, but for 15 years I have never removed the PVC!!! With a half acre corner lot with curbs and what seems like a mile of sidewalks and also a back driveway that comes out on the side road, I have A LOT of edging to do!!! So my machine gets used HARD!! Did I mention that I also take care of my rear neighbors yard as well?? Yes, her Nam-Vet husband dies about 6 years ago and I have been doing all of the same for her yard, so yeah, this beast gets used very hard... That drop wheel is something I have never seen and McClane did NOT tell me about when I wrote them complaining that it didn't have one and it is really needed for these heavy machines... Now that I am looking to replace mine, I will certainly be getting the drop wheel curb attachment..... Thanks for the video!!!!!

Yes you can. It takes a little practice because the wheels ride on grass and not concrete so you have to really watch where that blade is going. I generally lift up the back wheels so I can keep it steering in the right spot as I go over the uneven grass. It makes a very nice clean cut edge.
