"This melancholy, piano-driven track uses the analogy of morning preparations in the aftermath of a rough night to discuss insecurities and the masking of oneself. This imagery of facially masking internal struggles is shared by preceding album track “Trapdoor:” He wakes up early today Throws on a mask that will alter his face… And he pretends he’s okay, but you should see, oh Him in bed late at night, he’s petrified. It also foreshadows the band’s thorough motif of nightly struggles later seen in tracks like “Ode to Sleep,” “Semi-Automatic,” and “Pet Cheetah.” " Source Genius *you were on the right track.

"Nowhere were they holy. Open up your eyes and see, the clouds above will hold you." I think he's saying we are NOT holy, nobody is. God is and He will hold you.

I guess it depends on which version of that lyric is correct. I have looked up on many sites and some say "Nowhere were they holy" others say "Know you were made holy". Each have vastly different meanings. The later was what I heard but if it is in fact your lyric then that makes a lot of sense as well.

Thank you 😊. As always a perfect reaction. I’m just sitting with tears running down my cheeks. This is the most important song to me. It hit home to me so much when my stepdad took his life, the importance to look at your true self and remind yourself to be in your own mind, that you are in the mind of others & that you are important & worthy. I wish I could have told him ‘you’re in my mind’ one more time. Then my daughter, who does Lyra (aerial hoop) did a beautiful routine in a competition both in honour of Neil & to represent that feeling. These memories turn me into a bawling mess with this song 😅 but to me it is one of the most beautiful songs of all. This always reminds me of R U Ok? Day. (Is that a world wide thing???) always look in that mirror and look into what hides behind that glitter & check that you are ok. You are always in someone’s mind, there is always someone that cares even if you don’t quite believe it. I appreciate your view on the Christian thing also - as non Christian I still view the ending as just a reminder that above all you are important & ‘holy’ just because you are you & that is enough. 💛💛. (Sorry I rambled a bit but so glad you did this song - it’s important 😄)

Hi. Okay I am crashing into 21 Pilots last song on their latest album with suggestions for other groups but it's still quarantine and I am old so I will still be here stuck inside for awhile longer. Thank you in advance for forgiving me 🙂 6 suggestions 1) 21 Pilots' "Ride" done live by Pentatonix in an Australian radio station kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJXUc6R_pdp9gtU 2) Johnny Cash's Hurt by The Hound + the Fox ft Adam Chance - it looks like a 21 Pilots video. kzbin.info/www/bejne/jZuXlZqnpJaeo7M 3) Avi Kaplan's- Aberdeen which is pretty nice because it is outside (I remember outside - sigh) in California spoiler Aberdeen is a small town in California - you still have a few more of his older videos under Avriel and the Sequoias that you can do - Fields and Pier, Quarter Past 4, Hey Ya! cover 4) Old folks like myself are used to music being involved in all kinds of social/political issues. The school MIT has used performing Avi Kaplan's "Change On the Rise" as a - well you will see. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rV7XfKKigbuAZ7c 5) Avi Kaplan released a cover of Bill Withers "Lean on Me" on his latest E.P. donating all proceeds to the Equal Justice Initiative in Georgia with the following statement - "Lean On Me’ is one of my favorite songs, written by one of my favorite artists of all time, the incomparable Bill Withers. I arranged it for my most recent tour in hopes of inspiring the people who heard me sing it to look beyond their political or religious beliefs, color of skin, social class, and anything that could possibly divide us as a human race and come together. To lean on each other in troubling times. Since tour was canceled times have only become more troubled. I’m releasing this song in hopes of it being a reprieve for anyone suffering during all of this as I feel music is truly the best medicine. I also wanted to make sure it went further than that, so I will be donating all my proceeds from this track to Equal Justice Initiative, a foundation that fights against the oppression and injustice our Black, POC and Native American communities have faced for far too long. I truly believe in what they are doing, how they are doing it and their dreams for a better tomorrow.” Avi in concert in Cologne, Germany early 2020 kzbin.info/www/bejne/eXjKgqKOas5lsKs
