How many traits can you play per turn? And also if you can’t discard deep sea traits how come they have there own discard pile?

Before the cambrian explosion, 1 surface card (trait). After the cambrian explosion 2 cards including deep cards. There is a deep discard pile because you can discard the traits once they've been played onto your species, and you can also use deep cards to migrate, discarding after use.

Before You Play oh. I played this once. My memory got iffy over the deep sea cards. The people I played with if I remember correctly were discarding or flipping deep sea traits before the Cambrian explosion. They just wasn’t planning them on there species. I was confused the first time I played but it was very fun! Walmart only has evolution. I can’t find this ocean game.
