boiling the potato introduces water into the element and it can get messy when you fry it for a second time. You can also add minced onion or meat into the mix. These delicious malay snack is available at most nasi padang hawker stores. Yummy! Thanks MeatmenSG!

I think bergedil/ perkedel is originally from From europe which was brought by dutch people to Indonesia named Frikadel its not malay snacks tho. Cmiw
@Esperalzi-Esfaral9 жыл бұрын
+jasmine lee But it is a Malay dish now in Malaysia because only Malays eat it frquently...it is also and Indonesian dish and popular dish there too...in short, begedil is a Malay stock food now though we admit it originates elsewhere..just like other Malay foods in Malaysia - roti canai, gulai/kari/korma...heer in Malaysia, Malays have modified it to fit their taste...Malays even selling and cooking originally Chinese dishes with Malay flavors - kuey tiau, mee hailam, etc...

+Esperalzi Esperal u call begerdil actually a javanese word. The way javanese pronounce frikandil/perkedel in bahasa. Why its so popular in malaysia. Because it was brought by javanese people to malaysia. Ussually is eaten with soto ayam. Indonesian chicken soup.
@Esperalzi-Esfaral8 жыл бұрын
Wiwin Wintayati True, begedil is a Javanese food, brought to Malaysia and Singapore by Javanese from Java, Indonesia. This is historical fact, we admit it. We thank Javanese for bringing begedil to Malaysia and enriching Malaysia's culinary heritage. Javanese are now classified as Malays in Malaysia, so their cuisines are also now classified as Malay cuisines of Malaysia that originaet from Java, Indonesia. We inherit many other cuisines (and other cultural aspects) from Java such as tempeh, bakso, soto, sambal godok etc. Lately ayam penyet is a new dish from Indonesia that is popular in Malaysia, brought by Indonesians..

Quite agree. And if we boil first it will be less greasy.

Thanks a million! Love all your videos. Would be good if you could provide the recipe too because whenever I watch your video, I can't wait to try it. Though it is true that whoever do this potato patty, they can add in extra stuff like lime leaves or mince meat, but i think your recipe is more authentic. I love it just the way you have taught in this video; so I will try this tomorrow. Adding meat is really too filling for me. Really appreciate your sharing. God bless you a hundredfold.

By the way, do you have any recipe for the typical Malay sambal balacan? The type with a limey taste, spicy and taste of strong balacan? Orangy in colour. I love that and have tried many such recipe but have not got one that is what I am looking for. It's rather watery.

Is there any reason why the potatoes are fried but not boiled...just curious...btw it looks delicious 😊😃
@TheEirbrynhild9 жыл бұрын
The oil from frying the sliced potatoes actually helps to bind the potatoes together when you mould it 😁👍 hope this helps

Indonesians have the tendency to claim food as their own and call it their way. (Ignore them) For the record, it's also called begedil here in Singapore. :)
@Esperalzi-Esfaral8 жыл бұрын
Shahrin Mathers Your are right, it is called BEGEDIL in Malaysia and Singapore, but PERKEDEL in Indonesia. Originally a DUTCH FOOD FROM NETHERLANDS, called FRIKANDEL there, brought by Dutch to Indonesia, from Indonesia to Msia by Javanese migrants who later assimilated as part of Malaysian Malaysa...I am Malaysian, Indonesians, some of them, are ignorant, always thinking everything in Malaysia originates from there...
