These Interesting and off beat rhythms are often used in groove music and techno. The problem is translating unusual time signatures onto hardware 16 step sequencers.
Here we take a look at the basic principles of generating a tuplet or triplet beat using step sequencers and hearing them playing across 4/4 time as both polymeter and polyrhythm.
Specifically you can see me using a polyrhythm generator template to calculate a beat for the Novation Circuit.

Thanks for this. I've been working out how to do beats wirh triplets synced between a drumbrute impact and my og circuit. It's a bit of a mind bender as on the impact you can push or pull the step forward or backward whereas it only goes forward on the circuit. I hadn't thought of reducing the pattern length due to the problem you point out. I've instead been treating the 16 steps as 24 to try to get those shuffled hits to land correctly

On new Circuit Tracks it is possible to set up different sync rate for each track. This includes several triplets options. So it is possible to create some polyrhythms even without calculating micro steps. Great for lazy people like me :-)

The more I hear about the tracks the more tempting it becomes. I reckon I will not be able to help myself before the end of the year. I really like the Circuit workflow and the tracks seems to fill in some of the gaps that are missing in it's capabilities.

This is great from a practical point of view, but technically the explanation of the second part of the "fraction" is incorrect. It actually refers to which division of a "full note" is being used to count. So your 4/3 would be called 12/8 in official music theory. 12 notes in a bar, each of which is an eight of the length of a "full note" (AKA semibreve). These things matter in some contexts, but you do a great job explaining how to achieve interesting musical results, and that is more important, IMO. Keep up the good work.

Thank you for an insightful comment. Although I have been jamming and messing around with music for years I have come to realise more and more lately how woefully inadequate my musical understanding is. I live for the practicalities but I have the sneaking suspicion that as I understand these things better and find out more about why things work it will help me find new and interesting ways to circumvent the 'rules'. What your calling a poly meter is also called a hemiola

Quickly googles hemiola. That's cool, every day you learn something is a good day. I used triplets and waltz time as I am guessing they are the time sigs most people would find useful.
