@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz Жыл бұрын
Not sure... I did the figure 8's just to show the riding and the body positions for the video. When first practicing, it is good to try to just go in a straight line. As you become comfortable, then try some big turns as you ride in each position. This is really good practice to work on balance/counterbalance and momentum control (friction zone/throttle control skillZ.

What is the spacing of the cones?
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 жыл бұрын
We did not measure the cone distance for this exercise. (I would guess about 40 meters/130 feet). The cones were put there so the drone pilot would have reference points/boundaries to know where the rider would be. This exercise is meant to be performed in a "freestyle" flow... If the rider is new to off road riding, just going in a straight line while making the body position changes is challenging enough. With experience and confidence then adding in some large turns/swerves adds to the challenge of bike balance/counterbalance skillZ. We did the figure 8's to try to get all of it on film in a somewhat easy to follow manner.

Welcome to the adventure bike riding family!! Test out how movements feel with the bike on the center stand just to get your body used to the action. When you feel ready to practice on the move, find a safe, open space and only try the moves in a straight line. Just pick a couple exercises to practice each session. With practice, your balance and comfort will improve and you can add on more positions. The learning process was the same for us all in the beginning, so we understand! Come back and let us know how your training comes along.
@advmotoskillz

As a side note, these exercises will really pay off when you are off-roading because sometimes unseen bumps, rocks, etc can cause a hand or foot to get knocked out of position.

What is the purpose of sitting on knees?
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for asking! The purpose of the exercise to allow the rider to become familiar how their motorcycle balance point changes as the rider moves. It is not about how to ride in any one position. The rider learns subtle counterbalance movements needed to maintain balance and keep the motorcycle on line. A part of off-road ADV riding is that there are times the motorcycle’s suspension undergoes unexpected changes do to unseen dips or obstacles. A rider who has experience with quickly making counterbalance movements is better able to keep the motorcycle upright. Hope that helps

So the rider is not using his breaks at all, only clutch and throttle?
@advmotoskillz
@advmotoskillz 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question Markos, In these exercises the brakes can be used as needed. In all of the riding positions the front brake will be available as the right hand never leaves the handle bars during the exercises. In some riding positions and movements the rear brake will not be available and only the front brake can be applied. This will give the rider experience in applying the front brake with gentle pressure to avoid the front end diving. This exercise sequence also a great opportunity to practice friction zone and throttle control inputs. The Beginner Balance/Counterbalance exercises can be adapted to any skill level for these reasons.
