LOVE these but they are such tiny little sticks and so soft that they just don’t last long. Amazing for the top layer so you don’t fill the tooth too early and areas that just need that richness even in light values. Stunners!

Dear Susan, I can't thank you enough for your wonderful videos! One of my favourite things to do when I have the time, is to watch one of your videos and paint along with you. This has been such great practice for me and you taught me so much about colour and value. I have tried painting along with others on KZbin, but in my heart you certainly are my absolute number one because I'm always so happy with the result. Thanks to you I can now paint in a way I could never have imagined!

That is so gorgeous, the colours you used for the under painting with the different values & then the colours you chose to finish the painting just brings it alive and beautiful... Love it... I still have problems choosing the underpainting colours with the different values to really make the painting pop. Well done, I always enjoy watching your tutorials. 😊

Love your work...very beautiful. I'm wondering whether you realise that despite being a cool colour blue can advance in a landscape, especially if it is fairly intense. I think it has something to do with association, that is a body of water can appear bluer in the foreground. I've played around with this and I tend to choose highly neutralized blues or mix analogous colours having the same value to push back the background. Hope this helps, Jane.

Yes... great points ;) I should have clarified that I was speaking in general about how things cool off in the distance due to increased atmosphere. Thanks so much for you artistic experience and information!

Thank you so much for sharing your painting techniques and I really enjoy your use of color. I have learned so much about value watching you create your art and listening to your instruction. I have been drawing on and off for years in pastels and now I find myself re- energized to paint again now that I am retired trying underpainting techniques and different types of pastels and papers. I also use my iPad for photos and would like to know where you found the curved wooden iPad holder that you use. Thanks so much, Susan!

That's exactly how I got started in my journey with pastels. I used to love to draw when I was younger, and then when my kids got older I wanted to get back into creating art. Oh, and that holder for my Ipad is one I got at IKEA. I think it was only about $15. Happy Painting!

Hello Sister, thank you for the artistic - gusto... Exactly what i needed today ;) I love all that you do, as you already know; your use of color, explaining it in a flavorful manor and of course your spirit. But this piece shows an automatism-art perspective; meaning your subconsciously placing it perfectly. Love the little set

Great video! Love how soft and smooth those Dakota pastels look! Too bad it costs an arm and a leg to get art supplies to Canada from the States. Just a suggestion, I was watching a video on another pastel artist who lives in Tasmania, reviewing Mungyo Handmade Soft pastels. I don't know if you have ever tried them, but she had a wooden case of 200 gorgeous pastels. There had to be at least 20 different blues, 20 different purples, violets, greens, etc. 200 pastels!! She even commented that she didn't have to search for a colour! I researched them here in Canada and they cost nearly $900 to get them. I don't know how you go about obtaining supplies to review, but if you can get them sent to you (gratis), you should try to get these, the colours were amazing!
@monetcafe5 жыл бұрын
Oh Yay.... thanks for mentioning that! I have wanted to try Mungyo Handmade Pastels, and yes, often companies will get me supplies gratis if I do a video review. Thanks so much for this suggestion. Gosh, and I'm sorry it's so expensive to get pastels to Canada :( .

Fly Fisherman The reason I thought beginner artist would like this is because it was using such a limited palette of only 25 pastels. I wasn’t insinuating that the viewers need to go buy blue earth pastels, they were just the ones I used in this lesson.
