This is probably the best bass you can get for the money. I've played this one, and I really like it.

I have this bass in old violin burst..as an experienced player that owns 14 basses everything from the cheapest Glarry 5 string on up to american Fenders pbasses ..these 174Ew"s are spot on..the fit and finish is on par with top of the line fenders,it makes me want to buy another yamaha, if you take the neck off itll theres a stamp on the body thatll tell you exactly when your bass was made,mine was made on october 29,2019,that stamp alone isnt something you see on cheap basses let alone getting an exotic wood top which you dont see on cheap basses! My 174ew was an impulse buy from pawn shop that i do not regret one bit. One thing though the fretboard isn't rosewood its sonokeling🤘🤘

is that a type of rose wood? they definitely say rosewood in multiple descriptions.just double checked Sweetwater says rosewood...and yes I'm having a hard time finding a better bass than my 174 ew

I just bought this exact model of bass, about three weeks ago. I am new to bass and could not wait to get into my first bass. The knob in the middle I was thinking was a tone knob for the front pickup. I have to keep it dialed back about halfway otherwise I get a hum. What guage of string would you recommend for someone with small hands? I am having a hard time fretting notes on the E string. Thank you for this review.

I got this bass like 2 years ago after a break up, never played an instrument in my life, self taught my self via KZbinrs and Ricksmith 2014 remaster, and im currently in the intermediate stage. It is REALLY COMFORTABLE to play, even as a bigger i played it for hours. What would you recommend keeping this one for a while or upgrade to a 5 string?
@joetspaulding
@joetspaulding 2 жыл бұрын
this bass(174) is very light small and comfortable and spoils you. I've tried a Jazz bass 5 and an older Yamaha BB 5 and they are both too heavy and bulky for me so my TRBX 305 5 string is the best one so far for me

I still play my 174 as much or more than my more expensive ones...even the neck is the perfect thickness...

If you are an intermediate player I wouldn’t recommend a five string.

Those are Di Addario Nylon wound strings. They have a nice acoustic sounding tone to them but I switched back to round wounds for a more versatile and traditional sound. One of these days i want to get a super cheap (Glarry) P bass and put them on that.

The more I compare and look around this bass is hard to beat. Might go for the TRBX 604 someday but still happy for now

Hi is this a precision or jazz bass as I’m a little confused and will this be okay for metal?
@vinisasso
@vinisasso 8 ай бұрын
It is a conventional PJ bass configuration. When both pickups are engaged together it has a sound of its own, it is less tight trebly than a jazz bass, but brighter and more snappy than a Precision. If only the P (neck) pickup is engaged, it does sound identical to a traditional Precision. If only the Jazz (bridge) pickup is engaged, it emulates the single bridge pickup of a Jazz bass very well. So in short, you can get both a Precision or a distinct PJ sound out of it, but you can't get the distinct Jazz Bass sound out of it due to the different neck pickup. If you call it a variation of the Precision, or a distinct PJ type, you'll be correct in both cases. Now, if modern kinds of Metal are your thing, it will do well only if your guitarists don't overimpose their sound. If they go by the "the louder the better", it won't perform very well because it's passive, sounds more woody but more mellow. For modern metal you'll be better off with an active Bass, which will put a lot of emphasis to your trebles so the Bass won't sound buried behind a wall of guitars. Now, if you're about older Metal music like Black Sabbath, this Bass will rock, because the early metal was written for the Bass to show up well and more in-your-face anyway.

What’’s a decent budget amp to pair this with for bedroom play?
@joetspaulding
@joetspaulding 3 жыл бұрын
for bedroom only I recommend the Fender LT25 lots of cool sounds(plugged into a PC or Mac is amazing) but a little to weak for a garage amp. the Ampeg 50w 10 inch rocket I bought has an bigger awesome sound but not nearly as many. it is loud enough to jam in a garage setting too

Man, I need a help.. I’m getting a noise with this guitar especially when increasing the first tone knob (treble control). When using compressor the noise is heavy, not able to record. I need help to remove the noise. Can you help?
@joetspaulding
@joetspaulding 4 жыл бұрын
Maybe, i would check a few things. First, Cords and cord jacks a faulty or cheap cord could be making noise. Next i actually had this problem, it turned out one of the wires inside was only holding on by a strand of wire and I wouldn’t have figured it out but because the solder joint was only hanging on by a thread, I accidentally broke it, and when i re soldered it the bass was almost silent again. I also lined the cavity with shielding tape but really the noise was from the bad wire connection. So open it up and wiggle and inspect all the wire connections especially the black wires, they are your grounds. Last idea is make sure you are not around lots of fluorescent lights they are known for adding noise. Hope that helps.

id rather just give my opinion and mention the features of the guitar. by the time you hear it out of MY amp recorded by MY microphone then played back through YOUR crappy stereo it won't sound like the real thing anyway...right? lol 😉

to be honest I have uploaded plenty of videos of me playing this bass if you are really interested but my guess was you just wanted to be snarky. if I play a song most of the time it gets a copyright claim but this vid for example has over 6K views and no copy write claim. yeah almost two years playing bass and I'm not writing my own material...and I don't really do that noodle around to no beat thing...yet...so most stuff I play gets a claim but at least the views go to my channel counts

if I was wrong about you really wanting to see me play the bass then where you go kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmHSpn6hmbZ-q80 my guess is if you described how good or bad your stereo sounds I would have a better idea if I wanted one than if you made a video of you playing a song on it with a camera phone 😃
@Mr4Strings
@Mr4Strings 2 жыл бұрын
@@joetspaulding No, not really being "snarky" at all. Unless you mean "snarky" in a fun loving good way. I tell ya. I'm a drummer but since I moved into the house I reside in and out of respect for my neighbors I don't/can't play. So I picked up the acoustic guitar but I'm a rhythm section guy at heart so I decided to pick up a reasonably price bass guitar. I have never played one. I did pick one up once or maybe even twice!!!! I was anxious to hear you play especially after you said you'd been playing for 1 year in the video. I wanted to hear what I might expect to sound like!!! I'll go check out your referenced vid. No Harm, No Foul, Beginner Bass Player Dude!!
