Him talking about why he loves editing is EXACTLY how I feel. Granted, being a video editor has been my profession for years. Now that I’m in the KZbin game, it’s interesting hearing how so many KZbinrs (really popular ones too) hate editing. Putting all the pieces together like a puzzle and conveying a coherent, interesting story - it’s my favourite part!

Hayden Hillier-Smith IS the Walter Murch of video editing. Unlike many other film and video editors, Hayden Hillier-Smith is brilliant at speaking about the craft of editing. He always does it with such dynamism, clarity and a love of cinema so he constantly inspires me. I am sure he has the same impact on you too! Well done to Think Media and Omar for a really concise, useful, and most importantly a well-edited video with the Google Generation's Walter Murch. (27 October 2023).

It takes me many hours to edit 5 min videos, i enjoy it but also find it very stressful. In the end what i want is to feel accomplished and that i put the best possible video out. It really is fulfilling to feel like you have something to say and to be able to say it.

I can always make time to listen to Hayden, his work is incredible. At this point in my YT life, editing is not a big deal, in fact I love my edits and watching things stitch together is quite fun, I just need to work on expanding my audience.

I needed this for "SaveTheMales". I wish I could at least know as a raw beginner the simplest of edits to extend the video, make shorts, thumbnails. I work 72 hours a week at my regular job, so getting information and implementing it is tough, but if you grind hard enough.........diamonds.

Best Moments [Square brackets are my own thoughts] 1:30 give me the footage. leave me alone. I will give you something great. [It is all about the process] 2:33 Starting with nothing and making this into something is where I have the most fun [Hillier has found his magic. He loves a task so many people hate because it is time-consuming and boring. Hillier wins as he enjoys the process. He probably gets into a flow state and does not want editing to end.] 2:42 Having no idea what to do, and then going, yes this works. [He makes me want to fall in love with editing, with process of doing tough tasks] 3:03 Change. This is story telling. You click on this video and now you understanding a new thing. [You are now better than you were before having watched this video] 3:45 You knodded your head many times. Let's get that in when I say something interesting. Those signals tell you that was important info to retain [ This creates a mood] 7:07 advice to new editors to teach them things so they enjoy it a lot? make sure the cuts are clean. tetris pieces. but tetris pieces are all different sizes. Thank you for all this advice.

Self taught editor myself through Premiere Pro. Learning as I go with KZbin videos. I specialize in reaction (TV/Movie) videos. I want to get much better at this craft as I love it. So much more to learn and I want more knowledge in areas I am not even thinking about. Considered taking a Udemy course but I want a more structured learning environment so I am looking at one of those certification courses. Expensive, yes, but I think it will be worth it considering I have been at this consistently for four years and have not lost my passion for it. Thanks for this video because it even more confirms this is something I want to go all in on.

You are doing great, I have just subscribed on your channel!😄Thank you, this was incredibly helpful! I am trying to build a youtube channel with tarot and oracle readings, and its really hard since english is not my first language, and there are tons of creators with the same topic. And I am comletely new to all of this editing, uploading, thumbnail , intro creating etc. For you guys that are watching with me, I hope your channel grows fast ! We are in this together. NEVER GIVE UP!

The process of editing is so far away from what it was in the film industry. Their the story and the value of emotions where planned by author and director. Today on many KZbin channels the editors bring the emotions to live on their own. And Hillier is one who absolutely understood this and pushed it to perfection.🙏🤘👏

Great video. Nowadays being a KZbinr is like running a business. Just give people what they want. And when the growth becomes real, you can consider hiring people to help you run your channel more efficiently. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of Famester to help of course) will always pay off at the end. If nothing, at least you would have some experience.

People don't like overediting because it's too overproduced and sometimes unnecessary when people just want to hear what you say.

"I don't like overediting. That screams insecurity" Proceeds to put a shit ton of text, a distortion effect, 3 different clips in two sentences... Is that not overedited? I mean, I guess a lot of people like that, but I never did. Just feels overplayed. I think that's probably the most important point. Find your own style. I feel like if you don't enjoy editing to some degree, you should find someone to edit for your own channel. I hate the time it takes, but I do love editing on some level.
