So when you start row 9 ( cut color C and add color A ) .. is that first block made using color B then add A back in to start next block?

I'm doing this with scrap yarn, and it looks awful. I don't understand why we're doing sc and dc etc.. It makes it look choppy and bumpy. What am I missing.?
