Great tutorial! I come back to it everytime I make these. I did a couple of things that others may want to try. I lined them so when you're placing the insulbrite I put a piece of fabric over it right side up. I also top stitch the edge on my machine with a jean foot and needle. One thing I seem to get caught on is if you put a seam instead of using steam a seam be careful it's another place for the machine to get caught!

I have been quilting for twenty years, I love the fact that I can always learn more from your videos. You have great enthusiasm, I love that your husband quilt that he did for a paper piece, that was a big way to start something he never knew before. I hope that you do not have and motor home issues. Thank you so much.

Hi Becky! Love your video’s! Question about your iron.... what is under your mat that came with your iron? I hear you have to have it setting on something besides the mat that it comes with cause it gets “that” hot! Thanks in advance 😊
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 4 жыл бұрын
That is a silicone mat that came in a box or something I received years ago...from Fat Quarter Shop I think. The iron was so hot that I couldn't use the FQS mat all by itself but had to use the one that came with the iron as well. Both seem to do the trick but I still see a light scorch mark under them both. Fortunately, under the fabric on top of the dresser is teflon ironing board cover fabric. The dresser top should be fine. lol (I hope)

Hi Becky, thank you for the great video. I have a machine that only takes up to a 6 x 10 hoop, do you think I could split the design and still have them turn out the same? Or, can the design be modified to be a little smaller?

Well, you normally can only split designs that are digitized to do that. But the design might come in a 6x10? Sorry, it's been a while since this video.

Hi Becky, Another Great video! I have been watching a lot of ITH project videos. If I wanted to add an embroidery design, say to the front of the pot holder, would I 1.) stop the ITH project at the step just before the placement of the heatproof fabric on the back of the hoop, 2.) run the embroidery design on the same hoop, 3.) then go back to the ITH project and pick up at the step to sew the heatproof fabric? Or embroider on the front fabric before I even start the ITH project (and quilt over the design)? TIA.

I am a beginner in machine embroidery; I have Embrilliance Essentials to use with my Janome 400e. My largest hoop is 7.9" square, so would I be able to size down for this to stitch out on my machine? Or would I actually be able to use my hoop and the design as is? (7.9 is soooo close to 8"!)
@PowerToolsWithThread
@PowerToolsWithThread 4 жыл бұрын
I suspect that your Janome won't be able to "see" the design file because it will read as too large. That said, you might try the Fit To Hoop feature in Embrilliance. The resize would be less than 20% so I bet it would work. DBJJ doesn't support or refund resized designs, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Check out my video on Series 2 of these pot holders and there's a tutorial on using Embrilliance at the end. The Fit to Hoop is an icon in the menu and it's completely automatic. There's a link to Embrilliance below the video. It's only $139 and I think you'll absolutely love it. I also explain it with a video here: powertoolswiththread.com/embrilliance

Question? Could you use 2 layers of the thermal material or is that not needed? And, would it help to put another layer of batting on the back side after adding the thermal material? I have loved watching your videos and look, each day, to see if there are any new ones from you. I've only been doing machine embroidery for the last 2 months and really love it. The first month was getting acquainted with the machine and the last 3 weeks I've been creating potholders, coasters and make-up bags. I'm loving it!
