Bob Ross's is the most realistic looking but interestingly enough, the variations in each of their paintings could pass as their own style or personality. Like it doesn't look bad it just looks different.

No, they were all horribly blended, but I don’t blame them since I assume that they have zero experience with the medium. The only thing I would say is accurate about all of them are the colors and the placement of the house. Everything else fails.

I love watching real people try to paint with Bob. I tried to do it in real time, and it was the most frustrating thing I ever did. There was no joy whatsoever, however when I did it at my own pace with pausing the show, it worked rather well. These guys expressed exactly what I went through, with about same results. If you're doing realism and it doesn't look realistic, it's not your way of expressing yourself. It means you need to practice rather than make an excuse for your lack of skill. A perfect example of why Bob Ross was such a great teacher. His work is often dismissed, but he painted relaxing and creative paintings that he liked. His biggest gift was being able to explain what he was doing in a way that people could follow while presenting in a fashion that made them feel like it was ok to try - even if they failed to reach his quality. If these same people in this vid did four or five paintings via his lessons the growth would probably be amazing. Couched inside all his "happy" phrases are the techniques that will take them from beginners to competent painters. Bob Ross brought oil painting to life for millions of people when the art form seemed to be slowly fading away to all but the most dedicated of traditional artists. That very act of democratizing the art earned him a great deal of scorn from some in the established art world. Mr. Ross was helping people discover something he loved to do while making money from group lessons and his paints, brushes, and accessories, (I understand, but can not confirm, that he was paid zero $ for his PBS shows themselves), and people all over the country and eventually the world loved him. Not much more you can ask than that.
