this video came at the perfect time for me - suddenly things I was struggling with make sense. And, it's lovely to watch someone work with a material they've spent decades understanding. Thanks, Vaughan!

I will say I have trimmed through the bottom of a number of pices. When that happens, my wife says Planter. She has quite a few now. Great videos. I watch and learn all the time.

Thank you, I also have a need for planters. they can be plant protecters too, a cylinder to place around the new cutting to stop weed whacking it.

I'll sometimes slip and score a small ball of clay on the lid, then throw a small knob from that, but I think your method of throwing small knobs and slipping them on the lid is probably faster overall. Wish I'd had access to these videos when I was learning to throw, but that was before the days of internet.

I have done it both ways, not a lot of difference, I think throwing off the hump is a fraction quicker.

I just notice that you have great ergonomics on hand use. I'm late 60's and am paying for poor finger positions I am going to try your finger tip (right hand) lifting, rather than the side of my forefinger, which has been overused. Do you have any other suggestions or insights on protecting your hands? thanks, Jessica, Pacifica, California

Avoid wedging by using new or pugged clay. Use a side wall to help centre. Use a wooden mallet to pound clay instead of your hands. Thanks for watching.

Vaughan, do you fire your lids and pots separately? At college we are told to fire them together so we don’t glaze where the lids sit on the jar.
@Vsmithpots6 ай бұрын
I do both ways depending on the jar, mostly I stilt fire the lids so I can glaze the rims.
