I've ridden in group rides with anywhere from a handful of bikes to several thousand. I like group rides with people I know and trust. My 'club' will have a preride meeting to go over the route and identify the lead and sweep. We've done sponsored charity rides for kids that at least one of them was about 2000 miles in a weekend. I know this is not for everyone. But this was a great, informative video.

I'm usually in the sweep role. It just makes me feel better knowing that everyone in the group is wheels down. I can also call ahead if I see something that the rest may not see. I just personally enjoy being able to keep an eye on everyone and make sure everything is going good.

funeral escorts are a great intro - they're preorganised, fairly short rides (3-30 miles, rarely more), and other riders are always there to help you out. Routes are generally very easy (A to B then to C for the wake) and you often get a free beer or three for your trouble. Last rideout I went on we had a police escort, too, so yeah, those are always fun, the police stop traffic for the entire column until the sweepers pass them.

Nailed it. I've been organizing sports car runs for 15 years and this guide hits all of the important points. Some of the details are different for autos but still relevant. I start the briefing and end the briefing, "This is not a race. This is a fun drive with your friends. Don't ruin it for everyone else. If you drive unsafe, you won't be invited on future runs."

I was in a Miata club very fun other than the whinners "you are going too fast!" We usually broke into sub groups with a spirited group up front and then slower segments bringint up the rear with ALWAYS a DOG SLOW part of the club we pulled over with motors off waiting and waiting and waiting lol But was okay once everyone knew their place...some newbies however did not listen and would NOT simply pull over and let people by .....DAMN annoying....yes not a race but sports cars are for FUN not a 100 mile parade in the middle of nowhere Thankfully we did have radios.,,,,,which is a whole other set of problems trying to understand WHO is talking to WHO

best group ride size is 6 riders... why you ask? well its an even number so its easy to maintain proper rider stagger formation. it keeps the group big enough to easily be seen, and not too big so for the most part you will all usually get through that left turn at the intersection thus improving the ability for the group to stay together and keep track of each other.

@jawrazorback2 жыл бұрын
Nonsense some of the best rides I've had is group rides plus if you ride with friends close to your level of riding or better can help make you a better rider because they can help point out what you're doing wrong and if worst case scenario someone goes down you have buddies to stop, watch, control traffic and other to move your bike and to aid you or make a call on your behalf if it's bad enough...thankfully in the 2 times anyone has ever went down in a group ride with me it was very minor injuries or none and only brake levers or throttle stuck on their bikes. Ride safe have fun with friends stay shiny side up

@@jawrazorback do whatever works for you…I only ride with people I REALLY know and only a few at a time… my best “group” rides have been with my wife who rides her own bike. I’ve seen too many group rides where some of the participants forgot to leave their asshats at home…

@@murraehaynes3182 oh for sure I've dealt with beginner riders and asshat riders in a group myself before...I'd rather deal with a nervous beginner as they are more open to advice and capable of learning vs the asshat that's "too good" to learn or change their behavior by all means have a group of 3 or 4 well known riders or if you have the luck to have 10 or 15 well known riders like I do then that big group ride is amazing fun I try to ride with those at my level or above and before each group ride we know we will speed buts it's stated everyone ride your own ride don't try to keep up if you can't no shame no bashing cuz we all want to return home at the end of the day

30 hours into my riding journey and my advice, don't even think about a group ride until you are well comfortable with your bike and your ability. Went out with a fantastic and welcoming group of people but even though everyone tells you to take things your own pace, you feel bad when everyone in front of disappears into the horizon and you don't want to feel you are letting the people behind you down and then instead of paying attention to the corners you end up looking in your mirrors and trying to make time up on the straights and.... yeah..giving me anxiety just replaying that last ride in my head.

Get book "Total Control" maybe take a course and practice a lot....if you get left in the dust it probably means zero confidence in which case you dang SHOULD ride slower! Every single person has to put in the work and the time to safely get to that safe confident state

That’s rarely true. I ride all the time in groups of 10 or more. We ride a tight formation either staggered with no more than one motorcycle length behind the bike in front of you or handle bar to handle bar and again no more than one motorcycle length between you and the bike in front of you. We do proper ride and safety briefs before the ride to include the route and hand signals to include how we will be changing lanes if necessary as a group ie the lead signals the lane change, then the tail gunner moves over first and slows down the the lead bike moves over and everyone else moves over in between the lead and the tail gunner.

Your best bet would be to find a local motorcycle shop or gear shop and try on everything. One brand 3XL could be a tight or loose fit compare to a different brand's 3XL.

Look for helmets with an in shop fitting service. Shoei helmets, for example, do different sized padding so the biggest size with some padding changes may work for you if the standard size doesn't fit.
