An excellent explainer. By the way, as people dip in and out of acrylic painting, there are some great bargains to be had on ad websites or ebay. I got a huge lot of Golden HB tubes from a chap in France, a large lot of the small bottles of Golden fluid from a lady in Germany, and some nice sets of Winsor-Newton from folks here in Ireland for around half of what they would have cost in the shops. And as you say, one can amend consistency with mediums. I have also mixed, say, heavy body plus liquid to get an in-between consistency. Love your channel and your journey. It's always inspiring to see you working and the camera work is second to none. Mega kudoz!

Thanks so much, Ute! I went straight onto ebay to check 😄 That's a fantastic tip, thanks for sharing! I need to keep my eye out. Love a good bargain. I did get some Flashe paint off of ebay once, but I think they had mixed water into some of the paint. Still meaning to try those by the way...

Thankyou, that was so helpful. I had a guess at what the consistency levels meant, but the mediums had me stumped! If i was starting from scratch again now, i’d probably get the most expensive soft body primaries that i could afford, plus some flow medium. As it is i have a massive and random collection of colours, sets and flow levels!

Thank you Jeannine. This was really helpful. For some reason I’d never thought of thickening my paints with medium, only thinning them. I’ve just ordered some heavy gel medium to thicken up some of the ones I find a bit too runny.

Thank you Jeannine! This is really helpful and look forward to a video covering the different mediums. 🙏🏻 Another subject I have struggled with is the surface. Maybe a video covering what you use would be great if possible? 😊 I practice mainly in a journal and struggled to find one that will take a far amount of wet media and is affordable. So far I use Pith for acrylic work which seems to take a fair bashing of layer’s and water and Seawhites travel journal that are pretty forgiving for water colour mixed media but only come in landscape format . Both are affordable for a beginner however I would be interested if you have any other recommendations. I appreciate you don’t work a lot with watercolour but get the impression a lot of mixed media artists use watercolour paper. I have found this area the most confusing and overwhelming especially for a beginner. 🙏🏻

Hi Andrea. Thank you so much for your feedback! I can certainly do a video on what paper I use. I'm no means an expert when it comes to paper, but I have used my fair share of paper and sketchbooks in the past. From my experience, the paper that does take more wet media tends to be more expensive too. None of the sketchbooks I've tried are amazing at taking lots of water. I'd recommend 300gsm for paper. Where are you based? Thank you! If I take it from a squeeze tub or tube then I just try to aim carefully 😄. If the paint is in a tub, I take it out with a thin palette knife and scrape it into the bottle. You can see me do that here kzbin.info/www/bejne/fKHYnIOHe9mLobM in the ’refill paint bottles’ section

Also, I paused the video and went straight to the Golden website to see if I could order one of those charts with real color samples that you’re showing, but I haven’t found them. Is it something you’ve had for a while that maybe is no longer available?

Oh, also, another thing that took me a while to understand and that made me buy the wrong Golden products a couple of time is the OPEN versions that have a slower drying time, both in paints and mediums. :)

Hello, Are the system 3 acrylics matte finish or a semi gloss?? I can't find anywhere, not even on their website, what finish it gives. Can you advise on that??

Hello Maggie! They are satin I would say. Not super glossy, but not matt either.
