Are they oil pastels?
@annabelcleare138
@annabelcleare138 Күн бұрын
No they’re soft pastels - dusty, “chalky” dry and MESSY! 🫣🤣 and I love ‘em, She states at the beginning and emphasises at the end. Acrylic & oil don’t mix well, although you can get some interesting effects if you don’t mind somewhat temporary work.

What was the purpose of doing this? I have been using soft pastels for years and years, I think this video missed the pointy entirely.

This is such perfect timing Jeannine! I’ve always avoided soft chalky pastels because of the feel and mess but recently I’ve been tempted to introduce some into my mixed media to experiment with acrylic. I’m just creating in art journals for now and think this could be a wonderful addition and your video confirms the urge and gives me the excuse to add to my art supplies 😆 Thank you and echoing other comments, please can we watch you create these two canvases? 😊 All the best and have a wonderful weekend ☀🙏🏻☀

Thanks for the tip about the medium over the soft pastel stage. Makes a lot of sense now I know! Also, hoping you haven't finished these canvases without filming the next steps. It's always fascinating to watch how other artists weave their magic! Cheers for another great vid. I do think that your channel is getting better and better. PS I have no idea how you can walk into your studio, ready to work, wearing all white!!!!! 😆 Within seconds of walking into mine I'm covered in some kind of colour 😮. All the best from Australia Jeannine x

Hi, I feel less alone. after 5 minutes in my studio, I have pigments and paint all over me, unable to stay sharp. But I'm having a lot of fun, that's what counts. Have a nice day, from Montreal

I'm always amazed that you wear white 😮 I certainly couldn't get away with it 😂 By the end of the day I would look like a crazy Abstract ❤🎉 I wouldn't mind that but it would be expensive to keep myself dressed, lol.

Ah, so this is not oil based soft pastels, that confused me at first but you cleared it up at the end of the video. I use charcoal (both black and colored) with acrylic medium which gives the same soft gradated tones.

I love your process. I have tried to paint like your style but I find my finished paintings to be not so great and it boils down to colors mostly. This video should help. It seems almost fool proof. We have similar taste in colors. I like the size of your sketchbook. Looks perfect for this type of thing. Which one is it?

Thank you for doing this experiment! I have an acrylic portrait that I'm working on, I usually make pop-art type paintings. I was wondering whether I could work on the faces with pastel chalks as I have better control with them and then paint over them with acrylics. It's probably a long-winded way of getting a likeness but it looks like this may be possible! 😊

Hi Jeannine, this video was a discovery for me. I didn't know how to do it and you are an excellent teacher. The explanations are clear and concise. Thanks to you, I will easily mix colors that I didn't know were possible. Plus my favorite colors are often desaturated, so I'm over the moon at the possibility of so many mixes. I have lots of shades of yellow, magenta or lots of other reds, lots of shades of blue and brown so I'm going to have fun. Thank you for taking the time to teach us, you are very talented. the climate in the video is very calm and soothing. your music in general is fantastic. Have a nice day, from Montreal

Hi Janine, you large works I watched you make inspire me to paint on canvas with acrylics! I have a question for you on these, would you share about the paper you used and if you manipulated it in any way prior to putting the first acrylic layers you showed in this video? thank for sharing!

Hello Jeannine. Thank you for sharing the wonderful content. I'm noticing the framed artwork in the back ground on this video. Do you mostly frame your art with a simple floater frame? Are the frames behind you a dark brown color? Thanks again. Amara Barbara
