Probably the most straightforward tutorial and explanation of this process I’ve seen yet

Thanks Owen. I thought I would make a video showing what I wish someone would have shown me.

Great video! Very helpful. What’s the brand/model of step up ring assembly you are using? Thanks
@pastamatt2 ай бұрын
They were just generic step up rings from alliexpress at the appropriate sizes for each taking lens

It is very slight. If using audio from both the camera and the VA inputs, they are very slightly out of sync with each other and I have to re-align. If I'm just using audio from the VA, it is close enough to not notice if it is off and is fine as is.

Your footage is easily the closest I've seen on youtube to faithfully recreating the Panavision anamorphic look. How your videos don't have more views is beyond me. Any good tips on grabbing a Rapido FVD? I have an SLR magic and the idea of shelling out $1.2k for a vari diopter isn't super exciting...

Thanks. The Panavision C lenses are my favourate look for sure. I dream of trying to get close to that. Oh Man! I really don't know what to do. Buying an FVD-24A was a real tough pill to swallow back when I got it... Now I don't know what I would do. I do like to adapt, but it's so prohibitive now compared to more and more cheap anamorphic lenses coming out. I would hope that some more adapters also come out.

@@pastamatt Funny you say that - your camping video with the Cinelux + 85mm Contax zeiss pushed me to pull the trigger on the Rapido FVD 35a yesterday. It will be delivered in 2 months. I truly believe I have not seen anamorphic footage come as close to the characteristics of the Panavision lenses than yours on youtube - at any price point. There is something different this set of glass produces... Cheers man.

@tyoung wow! Nice! Well, that should be very versatile. So what scope are you using? Do you have a cinelux as well? I have to admit that I do enjoy adapting my own taking lenses so that I can get a nice variance of flavors. I also find myself really appreciating the 2x look. Anything much less than that always feels a bit compromised in its potential character.... so I think you will have fun. I'm so glad I got my fvd and cinelix... even though the fvd is more expensive than any lens I've ever bought... but it's a necessary cost of admission to get to play I guess.

@@pastamatt I have a 50mm Contax Zeiss T* with the Schneider Cinelux 2x. That paired with the FVD 35a should yield similar results to your footage (camera body is FX30). Excited... I will update you when the diopter arrives. I have a metabones CY to E speedbooster in the mail from Australia as well. The 85mm Contax is next on the list - your videos have set the bar

@tyoung I'm not totally sure, but you may not need the 35a because even with the 24a, the cinelux itself will start to vignette with wider taking lenses before the Fvd 24a will. You may be able to save yourself some money and size. Have you asked Rapido about their recommendations? When I had the SLR Magic rangefinder, it was the rangefinder that caused the vignetting but now I think it is just the cinelux... I can do some tests if you like.

What collar are you using to attach your anamorphic lens to rail?
@pastamatt2 ай бұрын
Mine says for Sigma 70-200 f2.8 APO but it is ever so slightly too large so the cinelux is wrapped with a little hockey-stick tape. I couldn't find my calipers to remeasure today yet.
