Exactly, I’m 56 and have been interested in playing either guitar or bass since I was about 12 lol had I not been lazy and plagued with undiagnosed adhd I might be, a really great player by now lol. But that said I need to have my hand held to learn this and forget the guitar, it’s waaaay too much to learn for me… I did play drums for many years though, that way easy for me because I like bashing stuff with sticks!

@@darkySp Really good, thanks. Played guitar before and never practiced, got really frustrated. The minute I picked up the bass it was like "ah, thats what I'm talking about".Now I practice as much as I can. I love how you can feel the bass and not just hear it. For the basics I am learning with the Fender play App and youtube videos. (20 years old on budget) And when I progress I will try to afford a teacher. Whats your strategy?
@darkySp4 жыл бұрын
@@dean7603 I've been thinking about pickup up lessons, but with 12th grade finals coming in a couple of months, it's gonna be pretty hard to do. Right now, i just pick out some songs for different styles and stick to them, learning them piece by piece and practicing the different techniques featured in the songs. Right now i'm doing Fingers with RHCP-Californication, Slap with Primus-Lacquer Head (strumming and harmonics as well, Les loves to have a lot of techniques in his songs) and Tool-The Grudge for pick. To be honest, i'm kinda bad at persistence, because i've learned some bars from lots of different songs, but at least i have backups, if i get bored or frustrated. Thing is, Tool and Primus are difficult bands to play on bass for the most part, so i'm kind of throwing myself in deep waters, but i haven't gotten frustrated yet, so i guess i'm doing fine!
@dean76034 жыл бұрын
Thats an interesting approach as well. I know exactly what youre talking about with inconsistency. I hear a song I like, I learn my favourite part and then stop. That's the way it was with guitar for me. Played for years but can play no more than two songs maybe. Dinosaur jr is my favourite band, but most songs are not for beginners either. As you say as long as you're not frustrated its ok, but it might not be the optimal approach in the long term. Fender Play is really cheap and it gives you a straight path to learn, with songs fitting your skills so consider checking it out, I like it

I picked up the bass about three months ago and your videos have been a big help learning. Can play whole songs now! Can’t afford ongoing lessons at the moment so your content is like the next best thing. Your previous absolute beginner video is how I got started first day. There was some wording in the old version about fretting that led me to press way too hard becuase my bass came with the action rather highish... you must know what I mean since you reworded it. This version 100% helpful. Keep it up, you are the best resource on KZbin for learning bass. There are a lot of great players on KZbin, but to also be a great teacher and great at making these clear and well paced videos is much rarer combination of skills. You have a gift, man. Then to see you going back and making the old videos better by redoing them?? Thank you!!

Thanks, got my first bass today, you've given me a grand start. I looked at the reviews for the model I got and the only prominent complaint that recurred was the buzz from the E string. It strikes me the E string will buzz on the frets on any model even the expensive ones. I would think someone like you that knows what their talking about would just use a more controlled pluck if it bothered them. What say you ? Oh by the way for all concerned I really think the bass range adds beauty to any type of music, even vocal.
