When i find a new area and get a map for it the first thing i try to do is fill in the map with all the spots in the said area. Also if you have died to a boss before and spawn on a bench far away try to find a bench closer to the boss before fighting it again, making the walk back to the boss after dying easier

When you first get a map it generally shows you the major points of interest. Filling out the map is smart The bench one is a great tip for sure.

I would ve pointed out 2 more important things that some new players do not realise. 1. You can give Rancid Eggs that you find all around the world to an npc that located to the far right of Dirtmouth (or whatever its called) to summon your spirit if you died in a tricky place that you cant get to. 2. You can use your dreamnail almost on any corpse that you find in the game to sometimes get interesting lore details.

The losing all your geo thing when you die on your way to your soul is straight up bad design. It only adds frustration and does not produce anything positive for the player. You could lose some geo, but not all of it. The rancid egg mechanic does mitigate this problem a lot though

I just started playing this game for this first time about a week ago. I saw it on gamepass and it looked interesting so I dl it. At first, I thought it was this simple platformer type game with not a whole lot of depth. OMG WAS I WRONG. This game is incredible!!! Its so complex and diverse with its different enemies, different areas to explore, and your character gets some pretty cool upgrades along the way. I overlooked this game and I am really sorry that it took me so long to play it. This game is quickly becoming a top 10 game for me. I've been playing it alot and I'm not even close to finishing it.

When you fight elder hu you can shade cloak when he slams the bricks but only the bricks when he’s on screen you can dash right or left when it slams down from above it’s usefull and will make it a bit easier but you need quick reactions

I just started today and I was not thinking I would enjoy it because I don’t really like metroidvania style game but I found that the souls like add on was a welcome addition and I enjoyed the souls hybrid as I’m a very big dark souls fan. I am enjoying it a lot right now and I look forward to beating it and getting Silksong when that comes out.

If you've got Mask left and ahead there are only hard enemies or you don't wanna risk it, quit the game and load your save. You will maintain all your progress and spawn on the last Bench you rested at. Charms & Spells

Ive just started playing and noticed if you go all the way right in dirtmouth, (jump over the well and keep going right) theres a locked door. u need a simple key to open it. I saved up 900 geo to buy it from the same vendor u find and "save" beneath dirtmouth, and inside the locked door is a temple of sorts with a bug that asks you if you have "regret" ... the game runs a check and in my case said no, and that being so i wouldnt need her services. Im assuming that if you die and go to her location, shes able to help you out (maybe helping you get your shade/soul back) which seems to be particularly useful if its really far or in a difficult area. I havent yet tried out dying and going to her but im assuming if my hunch is correct, it can be a huge help! Thanks so much for the downward strike tip on the spikes j never would have thought of it!!

The main problem I have isn't so much the bosses (I beat False Knight my first try), but the platforming and common enemies. I've already died more times to the latter than the former. Just about every step could mean my death, and that makes it more frustrating than fun. Granted I have never played a metroidvania before, but I am no stranger to hard games.

Another very good video Relyea. Was pleased you mentioned the spikes. Remember there is more than one type of spikes. About the only thing you cannot pogo off is thorns. Yes, even the spikey moving things in deepnest you can pogo off. Remember money is not everything. When first starting it is very easy to become focused on getting the money. Which yes early on there is no denying it is very helpful. Later in the game it will just become annoying and you wont even bother collecting it. There is lots of ways and means to get money so if you have died and then die again before you get your shade back ( note if have died a second time before collecting your shade it as a rule will NOT be in the same location as before, but, instead will be closer to your respawn location, not always true but most of the time ). Then all is not lost. Do not despair. And later on there is another way you can recover your shade much more easily and safely. Using a character you can find who can recall your shade to you. This game has no set way of doing it. how you do it is how you do it. You can complete the game without all the nail upgrades and without all the spell upgrades for example and have done so. You do not need all the charms, but there is a nice bonus if you do get them all. You do not have to find all the grubs to complete the game but, again a nice prize if you do. That is the beauty of this game, you can do everything or not much in order to complete it, that choice is left with you. The biggest thing is not to stress and enjoy the game, enjoy the story, enjoy the journey.

Thats a great tip about shade recovery, id just commented about it! The char is all the way right in dirtmouth (jump over well and keep heading right you just need a simple key to open the door which is 900 geo from vendor (not map vendor lady, dude who sells mask shards)!

Remember there is also a simple key you can gain in the colosseum of fools ( It is in a hidden area you gain by battling the Pale Lurker ) There is 4 simple keys in total which can open 4 locations :). As far as side quests go... I like doing them all. it just adds something to the storyline 1. All grubs - beat the collector to then find and use the grub map ( It shows you any grubs you have missed or not found) 2. Delicate flower - not just the initial one to the grave but also giving the 3 delicate flowers to NPC's who will accept them (doing this does give a different ending sequence) 3. Hunter's Journal - All 164 entries. 4. Mr Mushroom - meeting him in the 7 locations and listening to what he says ( to understand him you must equip the Spore Shroom Charm). Again completing this does give an additional sequence to ending 5. Meet Fluke Hermit in royal waterways - Must have flukenest charm equipped to understand. 6. Meet Bardoon in kingdom Edge. 7. Meet Midwife in Deepnest 8. Save Cloth... the way to do this is to NOT meet with cloth in Ancient Basin before you meet and battle Traitor Lord... only go and save Cloth once you have beaten Traitor Lord.

@@nzcyclone oo I had no idea about the arena! furthest I've gotten is the fungus/fog area, so Im guessing i've still got a ways to go. so many places I've come across trying .. trying.. need those bug wings! thanks for the tips man, esp about the side quests. too bad I could have saved 900 geo on the key I guess :( worst thing is im playing on a switch and my analog sticks are a little messed up and constantly push up or down, which makes those fungus trampolines a real PITA. love the game's lore tho, so far its gr8.. keeps it interesting, intriguing, and surreal! really adds depth + that feeling of exploring a little world, what's its history? what are the bugs doing with their scattered, seemingly desolate scurry lives? hehe. I dunno what it is about this game but they just hit the right notes! bout to jump in right now

If u need geo not early but quite mid game I think go to banker give her 4500 then she’ll go away she’ll steal ur money but u can get it back as more geo as well so then watch yt where the banker will be then get all ur geo back
