Even for small personal emergencies, stockpiles can be very useful. The last month one thing after another keeps breaking. We will be fine but it is helpful not having to buy a lot of groceries for now.

Wanted to share about the great manager at our grocery store. My husband went to pick up a grocery order for me. The store was busy due to weather coming in & they were running about 20 minutes late with the groceries. The store manager came out and apologized to my husband and gave him a large case of water! We've never had that happen...anywhere!

My husband is now a believer. He is using our 99-cent cans of pineapple, half-price nuts and $2/lb butter. We buy things we use and have everything in the basement, organized with the older things in the front.

I buy a huge can of baked beans from smart and final and portion it out into bags and freeze them, it's quite a bit cheaper than buying individual cans.

There was one food pantry that was doing that here. 1 box of frozen meat, 1 of fresh veggies, 1 of breads and pastries, and a miscellaneous box of anything from canned goods, to candy to new toilet brush sets. All banana boxes. And no, you got no choice. My freezer filled up, I was sharing with neighbors and family, and I was dehydrating lots. Then some problems happened at the church parking lot that they were allowed to use, so all that went out the window and they had to close it down. That was such a shame, just as I was getting used to going only once a month to replenish, it was taken away. I still utilize food pantries, but there is one just down the street from me, so that is a blessing in that I no longer have to travel so far. Believe me though, it kick started my freezers (I have 2, not counting the one over the fridge) being and staying full now, on just sale items. And let's clarify this in case you have a troll who wants to say that's too many freezers - when I was working, I bought them, so that I could fill them for when I was retired/disabled, so I could only buy good meats on sale, and keep them filled that way. Same with the pantry portion - my sister-in-law claims I am hoarding (in good fun she says this). I am not, I have checked myself on this one. I do have food insecurities (probably like any senior on $1300 a month social security, no pension, no other funds coming in), and all things going up. Growing up it got so bad that we all worked together to find and redeem soda bottles at times for a loaf of bread. So, like you, I am very defensive about the poverty level that we lived below, and most times were not aware of it - sometimes we were. Tawara, can you get people to understand that food in cans, and in most packages DOES NOT EXPIRE. There are "sell by" and "best if used by" dates. Sell by dates tell the stores when they need to get it off the shelf - per their contract with the manufacturers. Best if used by dates tell consumers that the manufacturers think (and we know they can't) the food will start to deteriorate if used past that date. I agree about brown rice. Being diabetic, they recommend nothing white, including rice, and it's fine. If people really want to stockpile brown rice, I suggest keeping it in the freezer, period. Tawara, when I was going once a week with a $20 weekly food budget, and stockpiling, oftentimes, I would get an extra package of meat for that $5. You may have enough flour, or canned goods, or rice, or tuna, and even tortillas, but that extra package of chicken thighs, or stew meat, etc. was wonderful for my mental health. Please tell Jill that there are more things to worry about in heaven and earth than wrinkles on her ears and toes. Just when I am beginning to think Jill's a lost cause, she redeemed herself with the little fan. I have a rechargeable Rigid fan that can that uses the batteries you use for a weed eater, and one that runs on D batteries and a couple you put water in that get a cool mist from (also battery operated). But I like that too.

My Costco sells cases of the small cans. I really can’t remember ever seeing huge cans. The dried products like rice and beans they do sell in big bags, but also cases of small cans of beans and they do sell individual portions in like 6 packs of different rices.

Love your channel! Thanks for sharing your knowledge and encouragement. Even in this economy and in the more expensive areas in the USA we can still find deals and we can stock up. I have this store that’s like a liquidation center. Today everything was $2. I got cases of cans for only $2 and bags of nuts. Shoes for the family and clothing. On Saturday what ever is left over is 25 cents. Usually by Saturday all the better bigger stuff is gone but I still find stuff like home decor and yard stuff even Guinea pig food and other pet stuff. This place makes dollar tree look expensive lol.

I do not understand why the trinity is so hard to understand. Take any man who has a son. He is both a father, a son, and if you believe we have a spirit or soul, also a soul. That man is probably also a brother, a husband, an employee… and all of those “pieces” are the EXACT same person … just all of those pieces function very differently. We would hope the husband relationship is different hab the father relationship, etc…

Jill, thanks to you, I had to check my ears to see if my wrinkles had spread that far 😀. Re remodeling: Years ago my husband and I built a house. We were told that a lot of people divorce while building a house due to the stress. We survived, but picking out the little things sometimes bothered me. When we added on an extra room years ago, that was easy. Gutting and remodeling our bathrooms was another story.

My cousin makes cabinets so I had him make mine. I told him how I wanted it, he designed them and I love them. We put in a new window and vinyl flooring. Everything went smoothly. I can’t imagine having so many things go wrong. It’s hard living in a house that is being remodeled. It’s always dusty and dirty.

Has anyone else tried full-strength Lysol to deter ants? We had ants in the kitchen and I had read somewhere that ants can't stand Lysol. I put some on a paper towel and wiped around the trashcan, the floor along the bottom of the back door where I was sure they were coming from, and along the edges of the cabinets where they met the floor and anywhere else along the "trail" they were following. The next day I couldn't find even one ant. I repeated the treatment a few days later and it seemed to work. Not sure if I was just lucky or it actually worked.
@lesley3609
@lesley3609 Жыл бұрын
I have never tried Lysol, but what I have done, and it works, is a mixture of sugar and borax. Put a pile of it where the ants are…and leave them alone. Let them eat it up and eventually they will take it back to their nest, where the queen is. It will kill every one of them. We haven’t had ants for years! 🙌🏻😁

Killing weevils: Some folks recommend a freeze-thaw-freeze treatment to simulate a winter for any pest eggs in grains. I don't do that, but i find a sure way of killing weebeasties is to just put the bag of flour, rice, etc in an oven set on low for long enough to heat the product completely. My oven is 170F on low. Insect eggs don't survive that temp. Do not try this on beans or something you might want to use as seeds. And don't try it with chocolate chips! :-)

Almost 15 years ago, my husband bought some of those "survival food" tubs. They are supposed to last 25 years. I tried one or two of the items and was not very fond of it. I guess if in the case of the apocolypse, we would have something to live on...but the price was outrageous. I have plenty stored of regular food that I hope will never have to use this stuff.

I think it depends on the pet you keep, dog food ist easily replaced and for cats you would only have to add one supplement or let them outside if possible. But sometimes that would not be safe an I would stockpile a bit for that personally. Rabbits would need either grass from outside or left over veggies and hay and maybe litter or an old newspaper in the litter box.

****For Jill***** I’m not sure what you meant by wrinkles in your earlobe, but my mom had a crease and she suffered from heart disease. It might be worth mentioning to your PC physician. Presence of bilateral ear lobe crease often accompanied by vascular dysfunction[5] Postmortem study confirmed the significant positive correlation between the presence of ear lobe crease and coronary heart diseases. Similarly, risk of cardiovascular death were 1.55-1.74 times greater than those without crease.

I just read an article, by Martha Stewert, that says that can food is best with in 18 months after the best by date, so if you have a can experation date April 23 still has the vitamins, and still is good until September of 24. I try and eat our food through that year so I'm eating the few 2022 food, and I have a few 2023 that were eating up as well. I don't want to keep canned food for 10 years maybe 2 years after the best buy date you need to eat what you store up. 😊
