Spoilers: The anime suicide parts are eps12-13 and it was pretty much them jumping off a cliff in one of the guys private island. They were stopped by Jougasaki, Misaki and Yamazaki. In the manga though, they were going to do it by charcoal-burning suicide and the other members decided to stop midway while Satou said he still wanted to do it, but they dragged him off the tent when he lost consciousness the first time. Meanwhile, Yamazaki brought Misaki to the convention where they were going to sell the eroge because he knew somehow that Satou could never do it, and still says almost the same line he said in ep13 which is something like "A dramatic death isn't befitting of us"

i found the anime kinda boring since it stretches out the first like 8 chapters of the manga into 20 episodes, but i did prefer the anime ending, just bcuz its happier. the novel is still the best version imo, its a masterpiece, but the manga is also rly good, and the anime is kinda bad but ig overall oke bcuz of the last 4 episodes imo

NHK's my 11th favorite Anime, so I got to read the novel and Manga! NHK resonates with me mainly because, of my brother(he's been a shut-in for years). I recommended it once, since he loves Anime like me, but he never was interested in watching it. Do you think I should get him into NHK one day Bob? Even though I never was a cynic nor a shut-in, NHK inspired me to live life, got out, and never give up on reality.

I've got mixed feelings about this series. I just finished the manga yesterday oddly enough. I haven't read the novel yet so I might do soon. For me, in the manga towards the end, the interactions between Satou and Misaki just felt very forced and their feelings towards each other didn't come off as very genuine. While I did like that the manga was a bit darker than the anime, I probably enjoyed the anime more. Purely in terms of how much I enjoyed them, I think I'd give the anime an 8 and the manga a 7.

I just finished it and had the same exact experience, the manga was just too out there and over the top. every character that was odd in the anime was completely insane in the manga. the anime felt grounded and had me emotionally invested, on the other hand.

I just finished reading the manga and holy crap, it's depressing and melodramatic as sh!t. It is a good story, don't get me wrong, but there was this one scene that was extremely dark and the author played it off like it was comedy. It was crazy. The ending was nice though. The characters really felt like real people.

While overall I liked both the manga and the anime a lot (I have the novel, haven't finished it yet), I also do think that the comedy and drama in the manga was over-the-top; at times, I couldn't take anything seriously because of the comedy and the drama at times was melodramatic.

do you actually have the full welcome to the NHK manga? I did not know about welcome to the NHK until tokyopop was out of business and thus it is very hard to find certain volumes of the manga because they were the ones who licesned and released it state side

I've watched the anime, one of my favorites, I currently have all 8 volumes of the manga and it's in my catalog of stuff I need to read, I've only read the first so far. also could you do a video like this with spice and wolf? I started with the manga way back when I first watched your videos talking about it. It's one of the very best manga series I've ever read and I can't thank you enough for recommending it. The anime series was meh. It's too lighthearted and is missing most of the drama and sad/dark stuff that made the manga great. It was still a nice watch overall but it really disappointed me after the high expectations I had thanks to the manga. I don't regret reading the manga first anyway since it was just awesome and it wouldn't have had the same impact on me if I had already watched the anime beforehand.

I hope someone can reply to this comment. Does anyone know the ending of the Welcome To The NHK novel? I'm curious as I'm really hoping for a somewhat happy ending. The anime was good, but I wasn't too satisfied with the ending. Same goes for the manga ending.

read the novel, its worth it. there are times when yamazaki and sato sneak into mizakis church and see that shes miserable but just making any effort to be included with people. sato also goes out on a date with misaki as well and has short dialogue with her grandfather. totally worth the read. i would spoil you but you would enjoy more reading it for yourself. is it happy or not? i wont say :) you can find it online too i think so enjoy!

I very much enjoyed the anime seeing as I watched it the second time, and to be honest I never read the manga from start to finish. I only saw last chapters just so I can sleep in peace knowing that surely there was a happy ending, which to me was, ehh 50/50. I most likely won't read the novel as I'm too much into manga style. I find that having the story illustrated would make things far enjoyable, in my opinion. And from the sounds of your comment it seems that Sato has indeed made great progress, if I were to compare it to the anime (which isn't fair but whatever). I still would appreciate it if you could tell me the ending :3 And if not then I'll I guess I have to read it XD.. Spoilers don't bother me. It's how they unfold that interests me.

Awesome Anime Fan If you want to watch both then you shouldn't, it's a lot more impactful in my opinion if you watch it after the Kyoto arc, it was also in the manga in this order. However its continuation, the last arc isn't animated, so if you want the complete experience you will have to read the last arc in the manga. But if you just want to watch a short, great samurai anime just go for the OVA.

I tried the anime hoping I'd enjoy it, as many people have said it's something I'd enjoy, from the genre's, I checked out 1 episode, and it felt too comedic based, (I guess same reason to why some people couldn't get into the anime Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, as they couldn't take it seriously) I actually thoroughly enjoyed Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure, but just couldn't get into this show, as I couldn't take the story seriously because of the huge chunk of comedy in the first episode?

I actually think the manga takes the story in the wrong direction, it feels way too altered imo. Misaki changes way too much between the light novel and the manga, I preferred her in the light novel/anime, the humor wasn't balanced right , at times I felt like I couldn't take the characters seriously because they would act extremely ridiculous, the humor was good in the manga, don't get me wrong, but there was too much of it for the story. The anime balances the humor and the story really well, and overall lightens the load of such a dark story in a really remarkable way. It's kind of rare that a story is able to be funny and serious when it needs to be, and that's why I think the anime stands out so much for me. TL;DR: Anime+Light Novel>Manga

While I haven't read it in awhile, I will say that the manga has always been my least favorite version of NHK. It was just all over the place and lost the message of the novel and anime. Which in short was basically, Stop blaming your problems on other people and look at yourself, no one is going to save you from your depression you have to do it yourself or die basically. I also didn't like the changes to Misakis backstory in the manga either. I still enjoyed the manga a lot though especially for the extra content, but quality wise it pales in comparison to the novel and anime.

How would the anime be lying about her past when they use the same backstory from the novel? Also that was just a small reason to why the manga is my least favorite. Still I disagree that shes suppose to be a victim character even in the anime, sure she has a tragic backstory in the novel and anime but they both make good attempts to show you what kind of fucked up person she is without overdoing it (like the manga did)

BobSamurai Anime Reviews Some of my favorite scenes were in the novel, that I would of loved to see animated. Like when Satou and Yamazaki go to Misakis church, and see how lonely she really is and Satou has that conversation with the other church goer. That part hit me hard. I'm fine with how the anime turned out though granted some things make more sense in the novel, like the ending, Satous drug use and Satou being a pedophile. But it was still fine and is still my favorite anime, hell my favorite part of the series is basically anime only, which is the offline meet. I'm aware its in the manga too but is handled a lot differently and the anime version of that scene is 100x better.

I have watched the anime years ago, but I never learned anything of the novel and manga, just to think that his allucinations in the original story are influenced by drugs, that just amazed me, I feel mindraped, I HAVE TO READ. I'm affraid I won't find the novel available in my country. Awesome video, Bob, tottaly encouraged me to read the other medias, and rescued my interest in this awesome story, I watched years ago.

I loved the anime. The Manga was just, meh, Too harsh for me. The ending especially, it killed me. I get not everything can be happy go lucky, but did it really need to end like that? And I haven't read the novel yet. Been trying to find it for months
