A close cousin of baking soda (sodium BI-cabonate) called sodium carbonate. You can make it out of baking soda by spreading it on a sheet pan and roasting it at 400 degrees for an hour. Or you can just go to walmart and pick up Arm and Hammer "Washing Soda". Costs about $5 and it's way more than you're likely to need. Look at the back of the box to confirm it's strictly sodium carbonate. To be clear, it may ALSO say "water" because both baking soda and soda ash are chemically mostly water. So long as nothing other than sodium carbonate and water are listed, you're good. Mix in 1 cup of soda ash to 1 gallon of water. Use a thick jug like those big jugs of vinegar, not a thinner plastic like a milk jug. The good news is it doesn't go bad! You can store it for quite a long time and come back to it later. For safety's sake (and this is probably overkill) I'd change the jug once every 6 months just to be extra safe because technically it will eat away at plastic over time. Wear gloves, and a little eye protection wouldn't hurt either!
