Disappointing resignation by opponent 1. According to openingtree.com, black is slightly better after 5.. Ke7 ( white 47%, black 48.7%).
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
After Kf8 Bb3 Ke8 he actually should resign. It's always funny when bad low rated players bluff the traxler, not knowing anything about it. They "learn" the refutation to Fried Liver just 1 move deep in hope it scares opponent off. Most amazing part is it actually works around 20% of time. Better ones learn only bad Nxf7 refutation mainline, but never anything about Bxf7. Low elo meta is astonishing.
@Brunorola
@Brunorola 3 жыл бұрын
Opening Tree is just a website that tracks what people played on online plataforms. The Traxler is not a good defence and no, Black is not slightly better after 5...Ke7.
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@Brunorola Depends how you look at it. Objectively not but practicaly speaking at lower elo against Nxf7 it is great. Just take a look on tree how many people actually knew the line there. Out of 3,7k games only 21 games reached theoretical Qf1. Avg. rating 2,1k btw.On lower elo it's just safe sailing for black with high WR. Issue though is Bxf7. Black is indeed considerably worse there after Ke7. It's bad but people seem to don't know lines either, so maybe it's still playable. For example after Bb3 Rf8 only about 50 games went on with best Nc3. I feel that on lower elo Traxler is scary as fuck and we are talking about that range.
@BM-hj6lq
@BM-hj6lq 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for pointing this out Bruno. Yes, Opening tree do not give an evaluation. According to the Stockfish engine white is better ( around +1). However Black performance showing better at online statistics is an indication of this opening is not bad for Black, at least in blitz.
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@BM-hj6lq White is slightly better than +1, around +1.5. But yeah, noone studies seriously Traxler, so you can outprepare opponent. Issue though is that if white plays Fried Liver he most likely knows some lines against Traxler and it's up to them whether to choose Nxf7 or Bxf7 where you need to study carefully both. And than you need to escape from their limited lines where objectively you are close to losing. That means you need to do much more prep. than your opponent to play Traxler with a success. It's potentially extremely dangerous, but it involves A LOT of effort. Hence why it's "scary as a fuck". You never know how well prepared is opponent and if you guess badly you probably have just lost. And let's be honest - white doesn't study Traxler that badly, because Bc5 occurs like every 6-7 games, so there is always a chance you are totally behind in prep.

I don't understand why people resign with minimal material disadvantage. I wouldn't resign until either I see the checkmate or I am down a queen or something like that. I agree players know they are playing against a GM however what will you gain if you resign on move 6 or 7. On top of that, the people in the 1000-1500 rating range do this. I believe anything could happen in sub 1500 ratings.

a problem i see people do in their career is that when they get to a point they are good, they stop learning and being interested and the mistakes they make they disregard because they are 'good enough'. i think same thing applies to a lot of GMs and finding that initial interest they had when they first started learning is tough because they like to be comfortable. but thats why magnus is so good, he plays and learns everything including bongcloud, like hikaru played and got used to. but id like to see a crazy opening no one does and learn how to stabalize it. thats how some gambits began, attacking a piece and youre like, thats ludicrous! yiu just lose a piece!! only to gain it in a different way, whether advantage in position or a piece further down the line.

Traxler my favorite counterattack
@bocyaJmaneloC
@bocyaJmaneloC 3 жыл бұрын
I thought up the Traxler on my own after playing against the fried liver like 50 times. I calculated up to Qh4. He played g3, then Nxg3 hxg3 Qxg3+ Kf1, I played d5 to bring out my bishop, Bxd5, and my one mistake was castling instead of Rf8, which allows Qh5, threatening checkmate and defending the knight on f7. My opponent played Rg1 though, which loses in a few moves after Bh3+.
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
Issue though is if Qh4 happened it means he already fucked up before with Nxf7 + Kxf2 and all what you saying is irrelevant. In correct lines against Traxler Qh4 never happens. Objectively speaking Traxler is poor defense - correct lines in Bxf7 are just losing for black, but as you pointed out people don't know moves. For example after Bb3 Rf8 Nc3 if we pick Qe8 line after Nd5+ Nxd5 exd5 Nd4 c3 Nxb3 we are already below 5 games territory and wining move is Qxb3 which in most databases is non existing. Literally had been never played before. And we are just 7 moves deep after Bc5. So yeah, Traxler may be objectively dubious, but if you are well prepared it's definitely fully playable refutation apart from GM lvl. Still... if someone plays Kxf2 it means he doesn't know anything =D Correct move is Kf1.
@bocyaJmaneloC
@bocyaJmaneloC 3 жыл бұрын
@@DonFreeq Yes, it was only a 1600s game and I correctly guessed that my opponent, like myself, wouldn't know the theory. I saw that Bxf7 was probably just winning for white, but figured my opponent was unlikely to see the tactical difficulties after Nxf7 (which looks more appealing on the surface). As for Kxf2, I knew Kf1 would have been the better move, but black is still on the offensive and a single wrong move can swing the game in their favor. And I'm not surprised the line you showed isn't in databases because it doesn't make any sense.
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@bocyaJmaneloC Qe8 is one of the 3 mainlines and the continuation is what the doctor ordered by which I mean top line engine recommendation. It makes hell lot of sense and shows that there is poor theory on Traxler. Though I agree that Qe8 is most likely the least played move out of 3 mainlines. Noone studies seriously Traxler hence why it's decent. Objectively after Kf1 white is wining, but has to play extremely precisely.
@bocyaJmaneloC
@bocyaJmaneloC 3 жыл бұрын
@@DonFreeq I have no issue with Qe8. It's everything after. If that's a computer line then either you made an error in transcription, are running your chess engine on a TI-84, or your description was too unclear to accurately decipher.
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@bocyaJmaneloC Oh my bad, I have just realized now. Error in transcription and a bad one. I guess was late night. Rf8 0-0 Qe8 Nc3 and here there are 3 possible moves Qg6, h6 and d6 - I meant d6 Nd5+ Nxd5 exd5 Nd4 c3 Nxb3. Works also by transposition with d6 after 0-0 and than Qe8.

hello daniel, i think playing a decent gambit like the danish would be awesome. hearing your thoughts while playing a gambit would be educational i think
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
Danish is kinda bad due to Qe7 after c3. d5 line also gives you no advantage at all and you are the one who is defending. Danish works only when they take on c3, which happens a lot though, so practically speaking it is indeed reasonable on lower elo. You just need to bear in mind you are gambling.
@studentt6064
@studentt6064 3 жыл бұрын
@@DonFreeq few people will ever play Qe7 to you. I think the danish is educational because it teaches you a lot about initiative/attacking chess, developing a threat on every move and never making a slow/passive move, as well as teaching you to not just trade pieces for the sake of trading pieces. It is a skill that is valuable even when you would play another opening (like say the scotch gambit).
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@studentt6064 Everything is true apart from d5 and Qe7. If everybody would take c3 opening would be absolutely awesome, but unfortunately not everyone does that mistake :P
@studentt6064
@studentt6064 3 жыл бұрын
@@DonFreeq Is it truly a mistake for black to take on c3 though? As long as black defends decently he has already equalised. Besides d5 just kind of leads to a normal chess game, I don't think it is a good move. Qe7 lines usually can lead to good development for white too (although it might get cramped for white the first couple of turns in the game).
@DonFreeq
@DonFreeq 3 жыл бұрын
@@studentt6064 For me it's a mistake, maybe not the clearest though, if white opts to recapture with knight. Double pawn sack is different story. Based on stats after Qe7 black has higher WR and d5 leads to equality, while dxc3 Nxc3 gives considerably better WR for white. Apart from that it's just tough to play against Nxc3. You are lacking development, so you need to be accurate in general. If you run engine on Nxc3 it won't initially give a full comp, but it's based on very concrete, somewhat unnatural moves like Qe7. When you stick to 2-nd, 3-rd best, natural moves, after digging into lines engine will actually realize white has full comp and as a black you are defending site. Noone likes to defend when opponent has full comp. My point is if you need to play sth like Qe7 anyway to keep your advantage, why not to begin with it?
@kmktruthserum9328
@kmktruthserum9328 3 жыл бұрын
ya know if white goes h4 and nh3 and black goes d5 e5 the computer takes that knight and sacks that bishop... (or some variation of it, black can do it too) which tells me that, that opening is something strong. they call something like that the ammonia opening but im not talking about that. im talking about getting the h pawn to the 6th rank asap and then getting your knight h3 then f2/f4 route. because no one plays it, it confuses people. i win often, and the knight is unusually strong there.

Basically, when a piece is defending another piece (the Knight and Queen for example), if you were to remove that knight from protecting the queen, and were able to check them in the same move, it removes the defender from the queen and allows you to take the piece after the trade. There are tricks to this, in some cases the undefended piece can move and protect the king from check but in most cases it is not able to.

Man, love watching his videos but that Traxler game really pissed me off. As someone who plays the Italian and knows fried liver theory, White is completely fine with taking on f7 with the knight. The key is after black takes on f2 you play king f1 and black really doesnt have much after that, even with perfect play. The opponent will often play nxe4 anyway but that is simply a huge blunder and black is already lost before that but has no comp whatsoever after that move. Very disappointed he would even say its a draw, thats just wild to me. I watch these videos to learn from him, never thought I would know more about a certain position than him.

Me xd Too weak opponents had been picked up. Those guys are so weak that after 10 moves they are already in dead lost territory. I bet you can find some 1500 who aren't giving you +6 after 10 moves xd Commentary is awesome, but it's just a total waste on such poor quality games.

IMO it doesn't really make that much sense playing against subs on the speedrun when it's supposed to be 1500 ELO level opponent, and in reality he's just facing a mere 1200.
