I stumbled across this today, watched it, loved it, will be rewatching it many times. I've always loved eskrima, and there's a local place that teaches it, but I am not a morning person and their beginners class is only early in the mornings, starting around 7:30, which is hard for me because I work second shift. Thank you for posting this video series.

I am a complete newbie when it comes to eskrima sticks and I find your videos very informative and well done. You break down the techniques nicely, demonstrate them from different angles and often with variations and you explain their applications. Nice. I look very much forward to exploring your other posts. Thanks Mr Wmpyr!

Good day! I'm a Filipino and I just decided to learn arnis yesterday. There's no guro/teacher here near my place(in the Philippines) so I decided to check KZbin for a beginner's guide and find this video. It's been years but I still want to thank you for uploading this. Pugay!

Broooooo, drumming helps heaps especially later on when using both hands and when training along to a metronome! I sometimes do heaven and earth (double sinawali) along to the double bass drums in the music playing in the background 🤘😝🤘

It's a pleasure to watch your videos,you are obviously passionate and authentic. This work you do preserves an ancient art form. Not only do these techniques look interesting in practice (and are no doubt effective in combat) but are also an excellent exercise for mind and body. Thanks. Watching your instructional vids in Toronto. Peace.

I'm writing a book series (Survival Apocalypse) set in the dangerous but hopeful future. So happens my characters have taken me to a place where military training is necessary and all they have is machetes. Knowing zip about these blades other than cutting fence weeds I search, "machete practice" and guess what I find? Your vid is PERFECT to teach me so I can teach my characters how to be the most proficient machete users. Wow!!! I thank you 100 times! Just exactly what I needed. I am hugely impressed with what you do so well that it looks like art! Bookmarked and will be studied. Norm

You have inspired a 52 year old to start training with both the escrima stick and training karambit. Would you suggest using a punching bag in this training to give a realistic feel of striking with these weapons?? Or is it better just using the free hands. For the most part I will be training by myself and want the most realistic feel I can get. Thank you, these are great inspirational videos for beginners such as myself!!

+wmpyr You're welcome. :) Anyway, can you actually kill or do a serious damage to anyone with these sticks? They seem to be light.
@phazeyarrhythmicattacker37929 жыл бұрын
+wmpyr I'm sure even the lighter ones can break a bone. Damn, these sticks are so cool. :D Is there also a metal version of them? In Condemned: Criminal Origins video game there were those cool creatures wielding the Escrima sticks but they were made of metal instead of wood.
@phazeyarrhythmicattacker37929 жыл бұрын
That would be cool. In that game they were metal but had lots of symmetrical incisions to make them less heavy and/or to reduce the air resistance I think. You could've actually heard the air flowing during the swing of the stick. I know a video game is not much like a real performance but the guys with the sticks were pretty cool animated (thanks to Jordan Pallen who did the motion capture for them). Interesting that was the only game I've ever encountered the opponents with the sticks. Too bad you could've only fought with one stick, even if they had left two after death. Shame. :)

Here a little question now, is there ways to send a DM on youtube or its only through the comments below the videos? @jodirook717 жыл бұрын
thanks for responding. I can be in California for a few months, then Washington state. I am in Dublin right now. Its just so hard to take a class in any interest when you move around. I had a former patient who became a stalker ( not love just said he would kill me to get money) I had to hire a guy to go shopping for groceries with me. I need to know that if I am cornered I can beat my attacker down and get out of there. I hated the idea he could be around any corner or out in the parking lot ( psych was upstairs and the judge said the restraining order didn't count at work bc his other doctor was there) I just want some skills that don't require a gun. A gun is a pain in the butt when you move all over and in and out of America.
