So one thing I do wanna throw out there as well for ideas, I have an 09 sti hatch. Unfortunately I work a job that doesn't pay enough to do expensive upgrades but if your looking for a cheap way to get that stock suspension out. I did eibach lowering springs on stock struts. They drop the car about an inch and makes it way more aerodynamic and fast. But yeah I spent about 130 on the springs

J. Rob my tuner would send me a tune for me to test and then i send him 4 datalogs doing stuff he asked like a pull in 4th, a pull through all gears and regular driving, and then send him the datalog so he can revise. He sent me 4 tunes until it was right. Whole proccess took about 2 hours.

Love the car and all cars with 🌟..#1 figure out where you want to end up , Subarus made in the US don't have the JDM goodies everyone wants ! I just finished a bugeye build , the second one so I was already aware of the issues i wanted reliability so I started with a good WRX body and bought a version 8 ej207 , s203 6 speed , axels R180 etc, etc , the absolute nessesary item's ( in my opinion ) are , stand alone ecu , intake , reverse cooling mod , equal length header's , catch can , Brembos or similar and a good radiator ! I burned up several 205s , junk . 2.5 will work but it needs to be fully forged $$$$$ ! Best option if you need a motor is a low mileage version 7 if you can live without avcs+dccd or version 8 . JDM engine doesn't work with access port but custom tune is best any way , all just my opinion but I have done it and made all the mistakes !

This video aged VERY WELL! 🔥 I just got into the Subie family a few weeks ago/w a 2011 STI 140k miles and found your channel. I watched a few of your videos and man you're like a Kungfu Master of Subie's (lol) I shall call you Subaru Sifu. On a serious note your knowledge of this platform is respected and this video will be used as a reference for me to build on. Quick question..... After buying my 2011 I immediately had a compression and leakdown done. The Compression was consistent across all cylinders @ 145psi (Within specs) Leakdown was Cylinder 1-2,4 10% (90) Cylinder 3 15% (85) What are your thoughts and maybe recommendations on this, taking into account I would like to build for a little more power (400hp)? Considering the mileage I do understand I may need to have internal work done. Would you think it's best to install a new long block and start from there? Thanks for the work you're doing on this platform..... Subbed!

-External wastegate will get rid of boost creep on a catless downpipe whether on the stock or aftermarket turbo. Of course paired with a boost controller. -Aside from the short shifter and many mounts/bushings I replaced, a CF driveshaft is the best investment I've done in that department. Low speed driving is much smoother and acceleration is a little peppier. No neck snapping, just enough to make you giggle. -The MC brace made the biggest difference in pedal feel. Pads, lines, and fluid for reduced stopping distance. -I went full HAM on suspension/bracing. It's by no means a beginner's way. -I recently installed fixed bucket seats. I feel eeeeeeverything that the car is doing.
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
How did you like the CF driveline? I've always been interested in one but could never justify it. EWG is the route to go to eliminate boost creep, still need to do one on my car 😅 Suspension bracing is what I'm focusing on right now
@octurbojoe5 жыл бұрын
@@Smeedia Awesome. Yeah the (PST) CF driveshaft is another mod that many overlook but makes the driving experience much smoother. The great thing about this is you can feel a difference at all RPM ranges. It doesn't require a tune as some ask because it's not part of the engine. What you'll notice immediately is the 1st to 2nd gear change is butter smooth. No more jerking or bucking, even though I've been driving manual for 24 years, lol. Personally I'd do this over a feather lightweight pulley that can potentially damage the engine.
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
@@octurbojoe I've always stayed away from light weight pulleys, I dont trust the fact that your not using a harmonic balancer with most of them. I'll have to check out the driveshaft might snag one in the near future 🤔

@@Smeedia I haven't had any issues with my Grimmspeed Pulley. It's the "heaviest of the lightweight pulleys, lol. I'll be swapping it back to the OE pulley on my next oil change. Like the front strut tower bar, it's just placebo.

Just got into the Subaru scene and this helped so much on what I should or shouldn’t do! Also who would you recommend for getting a pro tune done? I just got my 2015 STI and looking to do Basically Cobb stage 3 with the pro tune with I’m up in Bellingham so I’m already making a trip .
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the support there are a lot of good tuners up here, PRE, Cobb, Intec. Personally I have always gone to Surgline Tuning because they use to be a shop that Cobb owned and they're tuner had been there for a long time. They're awesome!
@Kichizo_DJ5 жыл бұрын
Drunkmann tuning is pretty good he etuned my buyeye. I think it took 3-4 days. During the process I had to replace my coil packs and plugs since it started to misfire at high boost. But part of the etuning process was mainly our time zones. after all that he ended up sending me a burble tune once we finalized the map. He does travel a lot so if it’s in your area probably should hit him up on Instagram or Facebook. Factionfab is good to look into for rotors and coilovers for budget minded stuff. Perrin, Cobb, mishimoto tomei, or Invidia are good companies to stick around for a lot of engine stuff. I just installed my tomei exhaust with the Cobb catted downpipe, it’s pretty loud. With the bubble tune it pops and crackles a lot. I’m probably going to see him in feb when he visits Hawaii since I added the tomei ti exhaust for peace of mind. Hope you have fun with your build! I’m pretty new to the subi world so figured I lend a hand.

I have a few mandatory things I need to fix first before thinking of any mods to the Impreza for now. I'll for sure come back to your vid to do a few mods myself.

I just bought a Type RA with an Invidia N400 and I'm fine waiting my warrenty out for anything else my main mods will be fresh tires for autocross >:D
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
Jealous, how do you like the RA? What's the warranty period like on them? Any different than a standard warranty?

Ha! The warranty thing was for me...lol. Is it odd to say I cant wait for it to run out of warranty....?

I always say fuck it with the warranty 😅 but nah, should be excited to mod the car!
@CamerOneiric5 жыл бұрын
@@Smeedia I have a brand new WRX and I've been weighing the cost/benefit analysis regarding the warranty. I want to say fuck it...The desire for mods outweighs the POSSIBILITY of needing to use the warranty coverage. What are your thoughts as a more seasoned owner of these cars?
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
@@CamerOneiric it is a debate worth talking about, personally I have never had to use any warranty with any of my cars that I've had (I've owned roughly 17 subarus with 8 or so being within warranty) when it comes to buying the car I'm fairly picky, I've only bought 1 brand new and that was my old 2016 WRX. There are going to be multiple things that factor into it such as your maintenance schedules, what mods you have going on the car, quality of the fuel you use etc. When I mod my cars I always do the longevity mods first to ensure that the motor will be happy and healthy when I start throwing some power at it. Your driving style and maintenance will be the biggest factors that go into it, people gave me a lot of shit about my maintenance schedules in my reliability video but they've worked flawless for me in the past. I just git back a oil analysis report on my engine from blackstone labs with my 3k mile intervals to see how it's doing and they said that the engine couldn't be any healthier than it is now. Personally I always day fuck the warranty and start nodding the car, and if the engine were to ever go out on my I would swap to a built IAG block, however I have never needed to in the past. My stance is modify over the warranty. Or if you want to retain the waranty you can always start with suspenion and drivetrain mods before doing the engine stuff.

Smeedia I appreciate the insight bro. I’m still a novice when it comes to choosing mods and calibrating the mods to work in equilibrium with one another. I hadn’t considered some of those mentioned in the video so I’ve got more research to do. I live in Oregon so the cold air intake bit was good to know lol we get pissed on 9 months out of the year too. Thanks again

My 2 cents for the man on a budget, the car only needs the whiteline rear swaybar on the medium setting, forget the springs and front swaybar. the front sway bar is far to heavy for the car and will actually cause worse under steer. and the springs don't make much difference. I would consider myself a decent driver but far from pro and i cant drive the car to 10/10ths with just the rear swaybar its all you need trust me to many people think they need the whole kit when you just dont. You also should not use " Blow off valves " it must be set to fully recirculate the car simply isnt designed for it. the car also doesn't need a catch can unless you are doing track work for the later moddel STIS they are completley fine without one. i would suggest Full invidia exhaust and downpipe with a process west air intake and a protune, The cobb access ports are a generic tune and every car is different and despite them adjusting it via "email" tunes i would highly suggest you think about what you are risking by going the cheap route. alot of people also install these mods without getting a tune because people convince them the car " learns " or adjusts for the changes witch is just flat out false. any modifcation you make to a subaru it should be tuned first and each time you add something else so best to save up the money and get it done all at once.
@Smeedia5 жыл бұрын
I agree that the whiteline rear sway is plenty enough for a good bump in handling, however; most enthusiasts like the look of a lowered car and springs are a great way to achieve that if your on a budget. Lowering the center of gravity a little more will still give a solid bump in handling as well. The BOV is a good option if you are going to jump onto speed density, but if your still on a MAF Car then a BPV is the way to go. I would disagree with the catch can point though, these cars get A LOT of blow by, take any factory STI and look inside of the couplers between the intercooler and the turbo and there is a good amount of oil pooling that your pushing back through the intake track, even daily driven cars accumulate a good amount of oil build up. The Acessport is a great way to monitor your car and the OTS Maps are okay to run with the proper modifications done to the car to match what the map suggests. However; I always suggest a protune or an etune over an OTS map since they are very generic in comparison to a tune that is actually put on the car to match what the ECU is reading and what is done to it. The older GD models were much better at learning and correcting than the GR and VA chassis but I would agree that a tune is required for bulk performance mods and from a cost savings aspect it is better to do them all at once and then get a tune done.
